Folks, anyone moved from Android to iOS? How did you go about transferring your data? Specifically WhatsApp chats, data and contacts. How secure are third party solutions?

Contacts.. You can by setting up a Google account in iOS

Gdrive sync will not work as iOS doesn't accept that. The only way is a 3rd party tool which could be unreliable. Contacts and stuff can be moved using an app called Move to iOS

I recently switched to iOS. There are paid solutions like Wutsapper for WhatsApp migration. One thing that sucks particularly about WhatsApp backup is that Google drive provides us free WhatsApp storage which doesn't get counted under the usage quota. Whereas on iPhone, you can only use iCloud as the backup option which provides just 5gb as part of free plan, and whatsapp backup gets counted under usage quota 😅. So if you ever think of having cloud WhatsApp backups (more than 5gb), then you have no option than paying for iCloud.

I used Wutsapper for Whatsapp backup. Expensive but works seamlessly with Type-C to lightening cable.

I think so because it does Phone to Phone transfer. And if I remember correctly, it doesn't require internet.

I didn't move WhatsApp data, most of it is ephemeral for me. Contacts were always synced with google contacts, ditto with photos

Whatsapp now itself allows you to move chats across OS. I can see “Move to Android” in my iphone right now too, so I am sure similar option should be there in your phone too. They recently launched this feature so make sure to update the app. For contacts, sync to your google account, really easy!

I'd have to reset my current iphone if I want to transfer WhatsApp data from my old android phone 😂

I tried this last night. Backed up my iPhone data manually, factory reset it, made sure whatsapp, Move to IOS app and both phones are fully updated but that move to iOS app failed to show “Whatsapp” option when I proceeded 😔 Looks like you need whatsapp beta which whatsapp documentation doesn't mention at all. 😔

How do you get whatsapp beta?

You can't. The whatsapp beta program is full and I don't trust APKs found on internet

By manual process backup, I meant moving photos, videos, files to laptop. I didn't have many apps so didn't look into backing them up.
