🚨 [Buying Advice] iPhone 14 pro vs Motorola edge 30 ultra I am planning to buy a good camera phone. I've the option to get iphone 14 pro from USA 🇺🇸 ( ~83k ). Not concerned with e-sim thing. Never been an iphone user. Privacy matters to me 😄 ( Am a security engineer ) Big billion days are upcoming and motorola is ~56k with 200MP camera. Even the front camera is 60MP 😅 iPhone reasons to buy : 1. Camera 2. Privacy Android : 1. Experience and convenience - ( like sms organiser etc ) 2. This phone's camera is good 3. Charging is 125W - super fast Since having a stock android on this, is privacy such a big concern 🤔 Also, I am okay with installing custom ROMs etc. Hence, that shouldn't be an issue. Any other options are welcome too 😄

Yup just saw that thread @quick-tent-39442 . Thanks 🙌
is software such a big deciding factor for iphone . Also the famed 'photonic engine' 🤔 @silly-butcher-14067
Though I've seen some basic functionalities not available as well as customisations that you can easily do on an android aren't there in iphone. For starters SMS organizer , I suppose isn't on iphone 🤔

From my notes (using iPad for 3 years) - • Inferior notification system. Android is leagues ahead in terms of notifications. • no freedom.to or other app blockers for digital detox • broken file system • out of warranty service is expensive • accessories are expensive • still no USB C 😕
gratitude thank you 3

I'll add some context I am not a power mobile user. I simply use my phone for calls, text and taking photos. I've been on Android from 2010-20 after moving to ios I've loved the freedom of not having Google bloatware My Notifications are off Don't have YouTube Gmail is not my default email client Don't give access to GPS on instagram I love the automation feature on shortcuts. Camera is extremely well polished.

@late-laptop-11694 Would you be able to use PayTM, Google Pay etc if you use custom ROMs?
yes yes 1

@thousands-exabyte-97089 Yes. You can bypass SafetyNet. Some ROMs even bypass it by default.
plus one 1

I tried the same for my previous mobile. But still PayTM is able to detect that I rooted my phone
SafetyNet was showing green check though

Strange. You can still use a Custom ROM without rooting though. So that solves the issue.

I made the jump to iOS for just one sole factor. regular OS updates without a long wait from the Manufacturer. So if being on the (probably the most secure), most upto date OS matters; iOS is the clear winner.

this is all good if you find time to do all these, since you will update your custom rom, and back to square 1 have been playing with these things since 2012 (Android Gingerbread), it was cool doing all this, until I realized its not worth it if you have a lot to do in your daily life 😄
switched to iPhone this year (13P), there is pretty much nothing i miss from Android (except notifications, iOS notifications is shit), plus how smooth the experience is. +1 on expensive accessories, but it gets the job done without you checking twice if it worked or not (had a few bad experiences with OnePlus 7, especially after Android 11 and no fixes). Regarding apps, I really like the way (some) apps integrate deep into iOS (eg like CallKit for each app which supports calling)

Motorola seems to be doing really good with this year’s launches, and apparently is the only brand available in India to get Stock Android phone for price that isn’t over the top. But no Android OEM has figured our day one OS upgrades yet, and even Google’s own Pixel phones suffered bugs all around last year, so I don’t expect Pixel 7 to be any different, and that’s the fundamental issue with Android in general. As for Samsung, sure it is head to head when it comes to camera but One UI is still very divisive, I’ve been using S22+ for past several months and yet haven’t liked One UI in any way, a simple example; whenever you take screenshots on Samsung, for some reason it puts those into DCIM folder (instead of Pictures folder), and that causes Google Photos to immediately upload it. 🤦‍♂️ Battery life on Android phones can never be consistently good, especially standby time, a new Android phone may give you great standby and screen-on time but it lasts only for a first few months, and that’s largely due to crappy Play Store review system which ends up approving any dumb app without any regards for its power usage patterns. TL;DR Buy a 56k Android phone only if you plan to use it for 2 years, otherwise buy iPhone Pro if you want to use it for 3 or more years with consistent updates and performance.

Think of the Apple Ecosystem as well. That’s a huge plus for me

I have an iPad Air 2 from 2014 and my wife is still able to use it without any issues while I moved to M1 iPad Pro last year, and that old iPad is running latest stable iPadOS, and that's biggest advantage of apple hardware.

Alright I've to also weigh in cause I can't help it lol I used to be an android guy ( used build custom roms while on android if that matters) but I've since switched to iPhone few years ago and it has been absolutely lovely. Here's what I love about iPhone 1. It just works. There are soo many tiny things were iPhone just works and is so much better at it (take aac codecs for Bluetooth for example, or maybe vibration motor, standby time, etc). It's like plumbing, when it's done right you don't think about it. 2. third party Apps are actually well designed 3. if you're into Apple ecosystem it's an absolute blast. I can simply copy from my phone and paste on my computer. My watch opens my phone or my computer if its on me. I can move my cursor from my computer to my iPad. Etc and so much more! 4. If you have apple care, after care services are a breeze and cheap (read zero ) 5. Hardware is always top notch ;) be it speakers, camera, microphone, earpiece, etc I can go on and on but you get the idea

For spam SMS filters, there's VeroSMS built by a friend. Pretty good. Hard agree with @acceptable-summer-68562 - universal copy:paste is so good. Even works when one device is on VPN & other isn't. Likewise with airdrop.
Lastly. Those megapixel numbers mean absolutely nothing

Yep. Apple's image processing has become so good that now my Sony RX100 M4 feels like a toy. Megapixels don't matter if your phone doesn't know what to do with all those pixels.

From this thread: https://remoteindian.slack.com/archives/CFKUPJZ7W/p1663432845973389 Are these correct 🤔
I especially miss the dual apps and guest mode features for making use of both my sim cards.
I've been using whatsapp and parallel whatsapp as I've two mobile nubmers. Can't I use the same on apple 🤔 ?
Any simple app on the app store will force you to add credit card for a 7 day trial because the devs know iPhone users cannot sideload any app. Even a wallpaper app will force you to see a 60 second unskippable ad to use any of the wallpapers.
Is this right 🤔

For WhatsApp at least, you can use regular WhatsApp and WhatsApp for Business with two different numbers, it is a workaround so one of your WhatsApp number will show as a business number for your contacts. As for apps asking credit cards, it really depends on apps, also apple won't be able to charge your credit card randomly as they didn't comply RBI regulation on mandates so any app store purchase currently requires user to add funds to apple account first.

If you're a security engineer, then Android is a better option from perspective of pentesting. At the end of the day, you can obtain sensitive information using frida or burp through Android much faster and in much easier way than with iPhone ever. If you're buying for personal use, then FairPhone is a better option as it's stock is close to AOSP with no bloat.
