Hi guys, I'm planning to buy a Kindle. I prefer hardcopy but I feel at times especially while traveling I tend to not read because of that and even otherwise, it has reduced. Which Kindle should I go with?
a
If you can afford. Go with the paper white. The problem with base model is that it doesn’t have backlight. So you can’t read without external light source at night.
💯 3
I don’t know about other expensive ones though

@acceptable-summer-68562 thanks for the suggestion.

If you mostly read non-fiction or technical PDFs, go with ipad.
m
@acceptable-flag-71699 any specific reason for iPad in that case?
a
Kindle screen are 6 or 7". Don't work well for docs/PDFs where text cannot reflow.

Oh I see, thanks for the info.

paperwhite 10th gen

@rough-autumn-89795 thanks, planning to mostly go with that .

+1 on 10th gen paperwhite, also I hardly used backlight but it's a good to have always so can read anywhere
m
So I think newest Paperwhite is the one I should go with. Thanks @swift-pilot-25722.

+1 for kindles with backlights. They are a life saver when you want to read in bed. That is why I read 2+ books at a time. I have a paper book for the day and at night, go to the Kindle and read the e-Books there 🙂 +1 also for suggestion that Kindles don't make good technical / programming book readers. Especially if the book has many tables or images. But if you don't, the e-ink display is as close to reading a physical book. The kindles are also ergonomically designed so you can easily go back and forth using just 1 hand.

Thanks for those insights @loud-glass-33663.

Get one of those kindle flip covers and you won’t even need to use a hand to hold it (while laying down).
m
@rough-autumn-89795 do you mean something like this one Robustrion Ultra Slim Smart Flip Case Cover for All Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 10th Generation (Not Compatible with Kindle 10th Gen 2019) - Deer Wine Red https://www.amazon.in/dp/B07LFFGS2D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_k0QSDbX6JTGE7
r
yes, I have that one.
l
@rough-autumn-89795 Why do you say no hands required?
r
I mean you use fingers to change page once in a while, but hands not required to hold it. When reading a book that takes time to digest (like chanakya), it saves some effort.
l
No - I understood that. So you open the book like a card and place it on your stomach? Is that what you were suggesting?
r
Ah, no. I lay down on my side (so can’t place on stomach). And I open the book like a card on the side of bed where my face is. Then it’s easy to read.
