How do you guys keep track of the main points that are conveyed while reading a book? Do you create a book summary? If yes, then how are you doing it? I am currently reading the following books: "*We have NO IDEA*" and "*The Norse Mythology*". Fantastic reads. Currently, I am trying to create a mind map to highlight the main points, but it grows bigger and bigger as I read more. So, I am wondering if there is a better way of doing it.

I note down all the highlighted points from my Kindle into Notion. I've created a separate table for storing book summaries, which I also use for tracking reading status (To-read, Reading, Read, Abandoned)

Okay, thank you @faint-energy-11966. Are you using free or paid version of Notion? and is it worth it?
k
@quick-judge-84214 notion is free
q
Yes, it is, but is it enough for basic day to day activities, or do we need a paid plan? I haven't tried it yet. I use OneNote and it has done a decent job so far.
f
Basic features are enough for most people. You are unlikely to run out of storage anytime soon.

Been using Readwise for more than a year now 💯

@faint-energy-11966 paid version only has unlimited guests and page history, if you're using it for personal work, you probably don't need those.
unlimited file uploads here means there's no restrictions on file size. otherwise it's 5mb per file (good enough for images/screenshots)

Okay, thank you guys for your inputs 🙂 I came across Notion for academics, and it allows one to use Notion Pro for free given you have a valid educational email id. I can leverage that, since I have quite a good amount of academic work at my hands.

@calm-grass-85557 Thank you for sharing Readwise. I will definitely check it out. It looks like it has syncing capabilities with Notion.

If your mind map is growing too big to be useful, you can try this - • Focus on ideas that surprised you or changed your world view. • Keep notes on ideas that you know to be false. • Keep notes on things that you didn’t understand. • Don’t include any ideas that you already know to be true. It sometimes feels good keeping them because they make you feel validated, but they might not add any value to re-read. Your notes should be contextual. Generic summaries are not as helpful.

@quick-judge-84214 If you are interested in building a knowledge base such that you would able to tag and link quotes and ideas from books to your personal notes etc. then try Remnote. I am considering switching from Notion to Remnote soon. Here's my referral link if you are interested - remnote.io/invite/602e6af4f613b60034cb07b9 But you may also sign up without it ;)
