Has anyone read The Almanack of Naval Ravikant? I was thinking of picking it up; thoughts?
k
It's just his tweets and quotes rehashed into a book. You'll get better value from just watching his youtube videos.

Oh 😮 Thanks for sharing that
t
its just his tweet compilation, imo you would be much better off with his twitter page and podcast

Must read, 3x times atleast

I found the hardcover useful. Leave it on the desk to read 2-3 pages at a time instead of continuous reading
m
don’t read it word-by-word like a book. You can skim through it and read only the sections/topics that you find useful
b
Is it actually good or just twitter hype?
t
Go to Naval’s twitter page and go through the pinned tweet-storm and if you enjoy or find it useful, you would feel the same way about the almanac as well. It’s just a compilation of his tweets from various points in time.

Or just watch this over and over

@kind-queen-6796 That is neat, usually these sort of talk shows are just teasers for the book. Are the contents of the book covered fully in the video?
k
@fresh-analyst-84724 the book in question is just a collection of his tweets from his public twitter channel made by a naval fan. What I'm saying is don't buy into the hype when the exact same information is available for free.

IIRC the book is also a free download
k
Interesting, I didn't know that. I have nothing against free books then. But to answer your question, the jre video is different and what the book contains is different. There maybe some overlap in topics.
f
Thanks! I started reading the book but didn't make much progress
@broad-camera-13514 It is a good question, I didn't finish reading yet. It does contain a bunch of philosophical insights. Overall worth the effort. One problem to me is the know-it-all vibe, and keeps feeding you just the answers you want to hear. Much like criticism about Gladwell

If you want to go to the source, read up Jiddu Krishnamurthy. That's who Naval has learned the most from.

Not really a fan of thought leaders and always skeptical

You can get the book on his website for free - https://www.navalmanack.com/ Personally, I don't like him or any other silicon valley techbros very much but that's just my opinion.
