Mistake? Never seen this before and 3 months still says Rs.2 which is the usual deal
c
It’s free, but I’m sure I’m never gonna use it 😛

+1 This is like the epic games of eBooks. I've had Kindle unlimited trial 4-5 times and never used it 🤣

Exactly!
d
Which is why I never pay for it since I know there will be enough deals now and then. This 1 year deal is ridiculous since paying customers can't avail it.
c
How about a new account from a different email?
d
Not sure if you have to have a payment method added but there can be workarounds but it's just inconvenient. I also use KU with Audible narration at times to get Audible books for cheap.
t
I lost this, since i think that offer is no longer valid
d
It was gone in few hours

Did anyone else receive this email for the Kindle Unlimited subscription offer? Not sure how I feel about Amazon pulling this off 😒

Yup, I received it too. Stupid 2 rupees people. 🤦

Ewww, Trillion dollar company...

I was checking the Kindle Unlimited catalog. It doesn’t seem to be worth for me - found just one book from my to-read books in the catalog - I checked around 10 books.

Could it be a sell-strategy to allow people to use the services for free, then allow them to use for a minimal fee, thereby build a customer base from thereon?
a
Yep. It is mostly that. @sticky-sandwich-47614. Make people used to the product and then slowly increase the pricing. [Almost everyone has gotten into that for markets like India] Worked in case of Google Cloud Storage. They had made Photos free(unlimited) and now, last year they made it with limited storage and you need to pay for extending the storage.
d
Got it as well
KU is very useful, I used to even have a US KU sometime back to get some of my favourite Audibles for cheap. (They have get Kindle addon Audible for $2 etc kind of rates) Nowadays with Audible.in it is not that useful, but there are still good books and it's a great service. The trials they do like this are not new. The 1 year thing was obviously a mistake but didn't think they would revoke it.

It is actually the other way around. Companies like Amazon cannot give away stuff for free. It becomes anti-competitive. And hence the Re. 2 and that's why Zerodha will charge 1p. Else you get pulled up by CCI and other bodies. Kindle Unlimited is like 169 bucks a month. It is peanuts for Amazon to offer it for free even to 10k people who signed up for it. It is more likely a genuine mistake or they might have even tried to slip one through but competitors would have complained and they would have to revert.
d
More than competitors it's about existing customers.

MRW I read the cancellation email this morning:
