Hello all, Got a contracting gig (new offer) from a US company. Confused about leaving my current job and becoming a consultant/contractor. any pros/cons need to know? position will be remote based.

Hi @delightful-glass-14214 . A couple of questions: 1. Does it pay equivalent (or more) to your day job? 2. Do you trust the people in the company to be reputable? 3. How did you land this gig? 4. What are your fears in pursuing this job?

1. Yeah, they are paying good 2. Yes, they are friendly and great people to work with 3. One of them is my ex colleague, he referred me to this 4. I was concerned about contract being terminated and my future employment opportunities. Also, remote for the first time, concept of loneliness.. and working alone.

Update: I'll be accepting the offer. I think I'll try to be more active in attending meetups and meeting new people to combat loneliness. I also think this group can help me 😁

Remote working will really help you focus on your personal life and side projects if any. So if the pay is good, timings are acceptable. you can take it. When working remotely, you need to constantly learn something thats the latest, so incase you need to search for a job here, you will be on the latest tech so you can land a good job. with respect to lonliness, you can get about $200 for your coworking space and find a coworking space near you where you will find many remote working people. All the best for the remote file πŸ‘ πŸ™Œ

Great to hear that @delightful-glass-14214 All the worries that you have are solved problems. I +1 @adorable-musician-78571’s co-working space idea. It is a change in lifestyle for sure β€” but I think for the better. I think moving about and spending sometime with family also helps with boredom and enables a change in the view. Regarding future prospects, considering you spend 1 - 2 years here, there will be even more opportunities on the other side. Remote jobs are going only up πŸ”Ό The thing is that you got this via a direct contact - so you haven’t been in the market β€” but if you were, you can be rest assured that if you are working on a decent tech stack and are good, you can get another job easily within a month. (from my experience) With the restricted commute and better headspace, you can spend time reading, learning or working on a side project or any of your other passions. Welcome to the remote life πŸ™‚
