Hey Guys any suggestions on buying a new laptop? I am looking for something which can withstand long run with good performance. Currently I am using HP notebook (i5 7th gen, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD) which has proven its worth for past 4 years. But it has really slowed down recently. I mostly use Linux so any manufacturer is also fine. Thanks.

thinkpad x1 carbon and dell xps look most durable and reliable. But they are pricey.

The lenovo t480 is an amazing choice. Full on support for linux.

Iโ€™d not recommend the t490 because the battery on that is shit. It can hold for 3 hours when idling. Do not even think of working heavy loads on battery power

I have one problem with the latest Dellโ€™s. They come with a lot of the components soldered. So components like SSD / RAM cannot be expanded.

I dont know what model you should go, but I would say these are must - 1. At least 4 cores on CPU 2. min 256 SSD 3. min 16gigs RAM if you are looking at a developer machine.. Cant say anything about graphics card etc as its not my area of expertise.

100% agree with Anand here. I have a 8GB RAM, 128GB machine and both fall short on occasions.

I have the same... But then, I use AWS ๐Ÿ˜›

Thanks everyone for your inputs. Really appreciate it.

i5/7, 8th gen + 256 SSD + 8GB RAM combo serves most purposes. Add GC for graphic workloads.

The LG Gram is a fantastic option, and I would vouch for that.
