Are remote jobs less secure than normal jobs? Have heard folks saying so.
g
That depends on the definition of security. It's different for different people and in different contexts. :)

Not getting fired is security to me

I am working remotely for 5 years now. Life is better than normal in my case. πŸ™‚

Not that I know of. The clause stated shouldn't be contract based though

Okay. But people do get fired in non-remote jobs as well. In my experience, I haven't seen any disparity between remote and non-remote working as far as (not) getting fired is concerned. One would get fired for consistent non-performance in either case, as long as the team/organization followed meritocratic ethics.

lol .. @creamy-gold-45939 - i worked 2.7 years remote, was getting appreciated and promoted. one unfortunate day fired suddenly.. now i am back in regular job from last 4 months and suddenly yesterday i am out ( this time not fired but i quit, couldnt face office politics ) .. So it all depends on so many factors .. Remote doesn’t mean stability or lack of stability .. its upon u, the work u do , the work expected, the people in system around u and several more factors

Same time there is a friend of mine who did 2 jobs almost all of last 3 years, 1 remote and 1 office .. yesterday exactly he lost both in same day πŸ˜›
life is uncertain .. enjoy it πŸ™‚ dont try to put labels and stick with one or other opinion

Jobs are always transient. The mode of work has no specific play in this. And if you are looking for job security as an objective, trust me to bring the bad news over - job security as a function of the job is dead! The quicker you realise this, the better off you can prepare yourself and take things further!

Thanks. This was something I overheard. Just wanted to clarify.

I'll tell you something in addition - You're really vulnerable when you start out remote - Its a new construct your brain doesnt understand. Yet. This means that you will tend to buy in any statement that makes yor heart beat normal. DONT.

It's tough for me to gauge as I've only been FT perm in person, and freelance remote. One thing that remote does in my favour is gives me sufficient time to reflect and consider my response. Unfortunately, I've got one of those faces that reflects what I think before I say it, so when someone says something stupid less-than-intelligent, I've got time to craft a response that gets my point across in a calm and responsible way.
