Is definitely a logical extension to Hashistack! I myself had been looking for a hosted solution for Consul, Vault, Nomad, and even Packer. This is very very interesting right now!

Can someone ELI5 why this is a big deal?

Hashicorp has a bunch of really, useful services (listed above by Nikhil). But you had to self-host them yourself. Hashicorp's cloud now gives you managed/PaaS versions of those services.
Also, for a while, Hashicorp, Elastic, Mongo, Redis etc have been battling AWS and other cloud provider who're creating their own forked offerings. So all of these have now started their own (mini) cloud providers with hosted/PaaS offerings.

Ah, I see. And are most of these services related to containers? (probably using the term too broadly here).

Not containers, but more like for infrastructure as code, which is cloud-first and security wise nicely designed/implemented. 😄
