Anyone else following DHH vs Apple story? Seems like he managed to turn Apple’s decision in his favour https://hey.com/apple/path/

Quite the roller-coaster! It makes sense that Basecamp/Hey would sell this as a 'change of heart' on Apple's end, but Apple made pretty much no concession on their original stand through the entire episode. In fact, the ultimate route to resolution was pretty much based on Apple's suggestion to Basecamp/Hey.

The biggest win for Hey in all this was how they got people talking about their product because of it. And I'd say this is definitely more than just a happy accident. In ReWork, DHH & co have spoken about how 'picking a fight' is a great way to get people to take notice of you/your work. They knew what they were doing with this entire thing. 🙏

Some people think they purposely did it for marketing.

Smaller companies having nothing to lose in most of these cases. I remember FreshWorks doing a campaign against SalesForce which went viral 👉 https://failsforce.com/saaswarscomic/
