How do you do guys do bank transactions outside of India? I am going out of country (Nepal) this week and was wondering what to do. Every transaction like transfer or payment requires an OTP now a days. Mobile roaming most likely will not be possible.

Airtel postpaid plans have free incoming SMS. I believe Vodafone needs you to get a rather expensive pack (which is the main reason I ported to Airtel)

@many-raincoat-20537 some banks and credit cards (for eg Amex) will send you the OTP via email as well in addition to SMS. Call customer care and check if this is an option for you. If this is not an option, you have to consider roaming. I have just been enabling roaming since the last 5 years. The hassle otherwise is not worth it. Your service provider will mostly have a pack which makes it affordable and I have found it cheaper many times compared to getting a local SIM. I am assuming you are talking about online transactions.
The other option I can think of is to transfer some amount with a family member or friend and ask them to run the payments on your behalf 🤷‍♂️

receiving sms are free of cost , it just that your network provider should have telecom partner in country where u are going and location should that have coverage Mostly airtel / vodafone have good partnership outside Confirm as per your telecom operator

@loud-glass-33663 Yes I am talking about online transactions. I will be gone for at least 6 months or more till a vaccine is available. Transferring some amount to family member or friend is a really good idea, thanks for that. I will make sure to transfer some amount before I leave.

Also, my provider is Vodafone. I will check for telecom partners.

On Airtel you can roam w/o any packs and still get free incoming SMS. This works for shorter trips of 1-2 months. You can just reject any phone calls. But for 6 months, I'd definitely consider getting a pack so your Indian number is reachable and you can call others w/o worrying about a huge bill.

I had vodafone and airtel while I was roaming in Dubai and US during the past year. I was still receiving incoming SMS for free. Also I was in US for 4 months. The SIM was not deactivated. they told that I just need to keep my SIM in network range and it should have balance and some basic pack for validity. You donot need any additional roaming packs.

Direct flights are not open. I will cross border by road. Yes, I will be working from there starting next week. It is my home. 🙂
