Anyone here using a Kindle Oasis? (https://amzn.to/33QSNKM) Would you recommend it? I have been using the Kindle since version 1 (with the huge keyboard at the bottom). I currently have the first version of the Paperwhite which is decent - but also frustrating at the same time (no hard buttons to turn pages). Touch screen is very laggy. (The new generations might be better). The battery is about giving out now after many years and was thinking whether the Oasis would be worth the upgrade?

I don't know about oasis, my paperwhite is working fine for almost three years now and I find the lagginess okay. My friend bought the current version (I guess as he bought it in this pandemic) and lagginess is almost similar but size of bazel is been reduced so that it can be handled in one hand YMMV

It’s not the lagginess. It is not knowing whether page turned or not - ending up turning multiple pages, etc. I loved the button kindles from earlier. I know I am getting picky πŸ™ˆ

if you have tried out kindle, why not try something different there are bunch of e-readers out there
if you're willing to spend money on oasis, you can check ipad air with kindle app; may be that works for you πŸ€”

iPad screens are different from Kindle screens. Even though it is Retina display, I could not read longer on iPad. Kindle screens are good on eyes.

For me the size and resulting extra weight has been a big no-no. It starts to become ipad-air like, which isn't so great for bedtime reading. Even the "chunkiness" of the older kindle is, IMO, a feature. I find it much harder to hold thinner gadgets for long periods of time.

I have an iPad air and cannot read on the screen. The glare is too much and causes strain. Especially at night. I think the biggest advantage of the Kindle is that like they advertise, it disappears in your hands.

My mum uses it and really likes it! Recommended for better PPI & the page turning buttons.

I do and I like it! I had an older Paperwhite (2013) so probably can't compare but the PPI is great, you can use it in dark mode, etc.

Thanks folks for all your feedback. I decided to bite the bullet and get the 8 GB Oasis on the Amazon Sale (discount of 2k) - https://amzn.to/3j96yci - still valid. Received today. Some observations: 1. Display is fantastic - super krisp. 2. The buttons are great and the device is substantially more responsive than my Kindle PW. 3. The ability to turn on warm colour is a major plus. Makes it feel more like a paperback and substantially easier on the eyes. 4. Noticed there is a dark mode - which is awesome. Will try it soon. I got the original Amazon cover as well. A little pricey but makes the device feel even that much more premium. If you do a lot of reading on a Kindle device, this might be a good investment. Thanks again for all your feedback. Helped me make the decision

I guess the bigger size and improved display is better too @loud-glass-33663? I find that I end up using the Kindle app on my iPad mini than the Kindle PW itself. The page turning is a major pain. The display on the new iPads are also great btw.

The size is not that much larger than a PW @many-minister-78351 - I was surprised to see how compact it is. I’ll share a picture. But page turns are instant and like I mentioned, the higher resolution does definitely make a difference to me while reading it. I can easily hold it in one hand and the buttons are a big plus. If you have a retina iPad, then the display is super awesome - even picture books look great - but, eye strain gets to you eventually. Not a pleasant experience for long stretches of reading (> 30-40m)
