Yea, just don't tell them your previous salary

Its better to ask upfront than to regret getting underpaid later. When i switched my first job i got 130% hike. I was hugely underpaid in the previous company. I analysed the average salary of my experience level and quoted it. some companies hesitated but i got few offers from others.

It has worked for me, I got more than 60% jump, they asked my salary multiple times, I just said 'i don't want to share it'

My very first job, I got X. I wasn’t very happy with it and quit after 3 months. I started hunting for jobs with 5X in mind, found a company that was willing to pay me ~3.5X. I joined immediately and worked there for almost two years. Recently, I quit that job and set out to find another job, this time with 16X as my target. I just found a job (been just 4 days since I started working here) that’s paying me 9X, with a potential for increase in 3 months. 900% increase within 2.5 years. I am surprised how well it works when you don’t reveal your previous salary, ask the recruiter what’s their budget and try to ask for beyond their budget. Of course I constantly had to learn new things but the payoff is always worth it.
In short, you get paid what you think you’re worth.

If you know your worth and are confident in expressing it, go ahead. A good employer mostly won't take it as a negative. That being said, it can be that case that it's considerably outside their budget. So like others mentioned, always good to clear it upfront.

+1 Think 10X, not 10% hikes - doubling is a great way to start, right thinking. But make sure you increase value adds for the employers too by working on self

Unfortunately most companies say we can't go beyond 30% hike . So wanted to make sure. People are paying only on my previous salary with a 30% hike despite marker standards are high.😰

@orange-action-12733 as people have pointed out, never give out your current pay no matter how much they push you for it. They won’t reject you simply because you refuse to reveal your salary. Also understand the power of leverage. When you’re into the early stages of the interview, you have no leverage in terms of negotiating pay, however once you’re a couple of rounds into the interview, they are obviously invested in you and won’t let you go off easily. This is when you negotiate hard. Once you reveal your salary right at the beginning though, you have no leverage at all.

These people ask me my pay stubs my previous salary all saying we can't go further. I am getting mad at all these processes

For some companies we should submit previous pay slips. You don’t have to settle just because some companies are not giving the hike you asked for. There are lot more companies , just keep looking 👍

I would honestly not go ahead with this company, unless there are other non monetary benefits to working here.

@kind-queen-6796 3.5x and 9x means you are earning 30x?Even if you started at 5 LPA that means you are getting 1.5 cr. Dafuq?
k
Haha no, 9 times X. The initial pay.

You need to analyse your value. After 1st year of my career when I switched, I got around 150% hike.

I’ve asked for 100% hikes once when the company know my prev CTC and they have rolled out the offer. Another instance, they asked my salary but gave more than 100% as I’m underpaid than their campus-hire. I also got 30% hike after 1st year, which is quite unusual, usually appraisals are of range 15%. 3 years back, I was told to not tell my prev salary and asked myself to estimate the salary and give a quote. That is too much of a hike, but I’m glad at that moment. So, salary, hikes and disclosing pre CTC heavily depends on your interview performance, company stage & state. Most importantly the culture of the company releasing offer. My two paise! 😄

Sounds interesting may be I get such offers one day
k
Start now, that one day is fictional 🙂
