I'm simplifying my work setup to be more travel-friendly. I'm into product, UI and UX design and consult for clients remotely. I sketch flows and brainstorm ideas on paper. It always takes a lot of time to digitize them and share with client/colleagues. Being remote makes synchronous ideation that requires free drawing impossible without a touch/pen device. Current gear: Laptop (non touch) Bluetooth Mouse Pen and Paper Monitor via HDMI Cable I think I'll have to get used to working on limited real estate without the monitor if want to work on the go. Anyway. How should I go about this? Some ideas - 1. Stick with current non-touch laptop. Add a drawing tablet that replaces paper AND mouse. (It can function as an input device to laptop.) 2. Stick with current non-touch laptop Add an iPad or similar device (replaces paper). Keep the mouse (because still need an input device for laptop.) 3. Buy a new 2-in-1 laptop / ultrabook that I can draw on. (replaces paper). Keep the mouse for other work like designing in figma. Any other ideas? I'm optimising for savings right now without over-sacrificing firepower I need to do my work.

I saw this in my twitter feed today. Not sure how useful it'll be for your scenario: https://twitter.com/remarkablepaper

IMO, iPad is worth every penny. Nothing even comes close in tablet segment. A touch laptop won't cut it. iPadOS is unbeatable.

@magnificent-solstice-42554 Have been drooling over reMarkable. But doesn't solve my use case of synchronous remote collaboration that lets me draw/sketch.

@faint-energy-11966 I'm using Windows right now. Is there significant friction working between Windows laptop and iPad? Like file transfers, cloud sync, etc.
#idea a website that asks visitor their use case and preferences and suggests laptops/devices that match them WITHOUT going into technical details like processor, RAM, Nits...

@calm-animal-50725 There's no native syncing between iPadOS and Windows. That said there are plenty of third party apps to sync your workflow E.g. I use the Goodreader (and Documents by Readdle) app to sync my Google Drive folders to my iPad. You can markup pdfs and take notes using Apple Pencil and since the pdfs are automatically synced to your preferred cloud storage, you can read them on other devices. Some suggestions - 1) If you really decide to get the iPad then get the iPad Air 4 or iPad pro 11. Large screen will hurt your hands if you hold it for too long. 2) Apple Pencil is a worthy investment if you will read books and take notes directly on pdfs. Also useful for note taking. 3) Don't buy the official keyboard. You can get cheap keyboards with trackpad on AliExpress. They all work just as good.

I am using OneNote on iPad and Windows.. I draw non-artistic diagrams ( cloud architecture, system design ) using apple pencil. I am very happy with the way it is working. MS 365 stack has a few tools like whiteboard for sharing the drawings online

Samsung Tab S7/S7+ goes really well with Windows is what I’ve heard. I’m on a Mac so I haven’t been able to test this out.

wirecutter.com? Might be a good idea to build something for the Indian context though.
