Anyone got their Indian passport renewed recently? What documents did you have to submit for the non-ECR verification? PS: The passport website lists a whole set of docs required for non-ECR and is confusing as hell.

I did a year ago, you can use their Android App to just do that process, they listed out all docs there

I submitted my college degree plus high school marksheets.. this was back in Jan 2020..

Not actually submit, they just saw and ticked off ecnr from their side...
Always carry originals and hold 3-4 copies of every original..

They might ask you to submit for the record in certain cases... Wife they asked her to submit proofs

This was our case - our passports had all expired > 1yr on date of interview...

ITR returns etc not needed then, right?

It's not as harrowing as most people report... It was a really really smooth process thanks to tcs running the show .. even if you are asked to revisit due to lack of something, they're crystal clear on what's missing..
Keep a copy. for me, I had them, they didn't ask

All my scrutiny was around address proofs coz I live in a rented house.

Yeah, that whole address proof on aadhar is a mess.

And once mine was done, everyone else in the family got theirs through coz "patriarchy zindabaad"

So, if youre in a rented property, make absolutely sure your rental agreement is spot on..
And carry another proof of address to the same place - we had phone, internet and gas bills pointing to the same address WITH the landlord's name on the bescom bills for last 3 months
The addresses everywhere have to match or they reject stating this

Noted. Also, what does stamped ITR mean? Same as ITR-V?
I e-filed and only got a verification doc (ITR-V) and acknowledgement doc emailed back to me for acknowledgement of tax paid.

Yeah, thats all… There’s no stamping for us when filed and verified online. Ours is just ITR-V. Nothing else.

@straight-continent-34777: Two more questions.... 1: did you immediately get the new passport there itself? Or did they courier it to you the next day? 2: police re-verification was not needed, right? Since yours was less than 3 years after expiry....

Speed post. After police verification. For me + Wife: Day 0: Appointment. Day 1: Police verification Day 4/5: Passport delivered by Speedpost For Kids: No police verification. Day 0: Appointment. Day 1: Passport delivery by Speedpost

Police verification required / not required is a complex if-else-switch-case-loop that’s at the discretion of the system and the mood of the cpu / ram

Keeping fingers crossed that police re-verification is not required. But will have to see. 😀

Police verification is mostly required unless you have opted for Tatkaal (in which case it happens after passport is dispatched) — and especially if your address has changed.

Hey I renewed mine last year in January for non-ECR verification. I only had to submit my college degree.

Whats the point of getting that done? non-ECR? I had assumed that you can skip the Emigration check while exiting India — but I have never seen it in action.
Ok. I was mistaken. This applies if you intend to emigrate to certain countries for work. Only if there as a way to skip the line while leaving the country 😬 That would be awesome.

So, couldn't skip police verification this time. 😂 1. Yesterday morning, I spent less than 30 minutes at the passport office itself. Things moved pretty fast here. 2. Today morning, police person showed up at home to verify basic details. 3. Tomorrow morning, I have to visit police station and submit some docs. Hopefully the renewed passport will arrive in a few days after that.
