Pretty much my experience of staying in the US. Great place, lots of freedom and ambition. https://twitter.com/Appyg99/status/1421679746505580553

How long did you stay in the US and what made you move back to India? Are you planning to go back at some point? What do you think about the https://www.thequint.com/us-nri-news/how-green-card-backlog-impacts-indian-nationals|90 year long green card backlogs for Indians>? Is US still a viable option for someone considering moving out of India permanently?
m
@broad-camera-13514 Are you planning to move back to US?
b
@rich-helicopter-56003 Stayed there for 3ish months when I interned there. I'm not looking for a green card, just stay and live there for a while (Better than india at least) @many-intern-37109 I want to, but given that I'm starting up the visa situation is tricky. Easiest way to move there is to do an MS and get an F1 visa. You build a community, get friends and can transition. Second easiest and get a job/transfer and go on an H1.
m
Do you know of a good resource about the market and chances of getting a job in US on H1?
b
No man, haven't done much research

b
Thanks man this is really helpful. Do you have an O1?
Okay just went through the IEP and EB-5 and these are genuinely great options. With an EB-5 you can get a green card if you invest 500K in the US. And you can get one in 2 years. This opens up a lot of possibilities
Holy shit this chick is 19 years old and applied for her O1 at 16. She's a founder and has raised 25M in funding
m
What do you guys think of this? https://learn.saimanshetty.com/smartgreencard

This actually looks good. EB-1 is quite a powerful visa and it looks like you need to hit most of these (https://www.uscis.gov/working-in-the-united-states/permanent-workers/employment-based-immigration-first-preference-eb-1) • Receipt of national/international prizes or awards of excellence; • Memberships in associations in the field which demand outstanding achievement; • Evidence of published material about the applicant in professional or major trade publications or other media; • Acting as a judge of the work of others in the field; • Original and significant contributions to the field; • Authorship or scholarly articles in professional or major trade publications or other major media; • Work has been displayed at artistic exhibitions or showcases; • Evidence of performances of a leading or critical role in distinguished organizations; • Evidence of commanding a high salary or other significantly high remuneration in relation to others in the field; • Commercial successes in the performing arts Which is not that hard...with some prep. Most can be hacked/jugaad. Also one of the reviewers is my friend (Soundaraya) and didn't realize she's applying for an EB-1. She's has published a book and is conductin an online course on Maven. Has also gotten articles printed about her in ToI. Was wondering why she's doing all this lol. Makes sense, these can help a lot with the EB-1 application.
Her articles and content are mostly about Getting into US and doing an MS etc. : https://www.amazon.in/Admitted-Missing-Winning-Application-Abroad-ebook/dp/B08FC2BT3W
We can write something on ML and CV on packt and get it published on some newspapers and start building an application. Lots more jugaad 🙂
Honestly if she gets an EB-1 I'm just going to copy her playbook
m
Yess, let’s do this haha
r
Do you have an O1?
No, but that seems like the only realistic option to stay in the US long-term as an Indian, because that O-1 can then be converted to EB-1, which has more preference in the green card allotment, compared to going there on an H1b and converted that H1b to EB-2 which has a loooooooooooong backlog.
O-1 or IEP, IEP is the new thing everyone's talking about

b
Are you planning on applying for this?
r
Not yet, checking if I can go to EU on a work visa instead, and then maybe apply for this after some years if I want to go to the US
How about you? Planning to apply for this now?
b
No dude, need a better application for O1. Plan is to apply same time next year after I beef up my accomplishments
m
Same here, but sure need to build new contacts to get some tasks done
b
Contacts?
@rich-helicopter-56003 Do you have any more resources for O1/EB1/ IEP? Or know any folks who've gotten it/trying/knowledgable in this?
r
Don't have any more resources. Re: folks, I think it's safe to assume that any Indian YC founders in the US are there on an O-1, since YC's lawyers help them with the application and everything.
b
Interesting, wasn't aware pof that
