Anyone here using M1 chip macbook are you facing any compatibility issues? I want to buy new macbook but instead of M1 chip should I buy previous version macbook?
b
I am using M1 max. No compatibility issues!
Don’t buy Intel ones unless you have something specific that 100% doesn't work on M1.

I see M1 chip macbook air is priced at 84k if I go for i7 then I will get it for cheap right?
I have asked few people they have said they have faced some compatibility issues in their office
m
been using the m1 based mac for a month-ish and it's really hard to recommend the intel based macs. Unless you need some specific app, I don't see a reason. You can search for compatibility issues, I haven;t run into any
b
I guess it majorly depends on your role - If you do backend engineering you might face some issues around package compatibilities. Though most of the packages are now up-to-date for M1 support

Even if there's minor compatibility issues with workarounds, they'll go away with time. But your hardware will remain with you for 5 years. Unless it just doesn't work on M1, there's no reason to get Intel Mac.

Only thing I have faced as an noticeable issue is with respect to Docker Containers. Some time Images build on M1 which arm64 does run as same as the arch64. lots of factors to take care off. but rest of it.. Rosetta takes care
e
Yes I have seen people complaining about docker related issues

Let me know if you're open to buying a second-hand MacBook? Warranty ends June 2022 and I have the original bill + everything (Croma) Intel i5, 16GB, 512GB, Touchbar I bought it because of the Docker issues on the M1 as well
