Ladies and gents, we now have an ephemeral/disposable and secure video conferencing platform that can livestream simultaneously to how-many-ever live streams and record them too! Jitsi Meet is a video conferencing platform that supports only streaming to YouTube by default. But then it's opensource and has a very active community. Found a nifty hack on the forums for simulcasting to multiple RTMP endpoints, so why not! Over the weekend, I enabled simulcast streaming via Jitsi with my Terraform configuration for AWS. Tested it with simultaneous streaming of video conferencing calls to Facebook Live, YouTube Live, Periscope/Twitter Live, and Twitch! And it can record livestreams at the same time (stock install can either stream or record with one Jibri at a time). To put things in perspective, a self-hosted setup on an AWS m4.xlarge EC2 instance in Mumbai would support upto 75 participants per conference, upto 200 participants across conferences, and would cost 15Rs per hour. You can kill the infra after use, so that you don't pay for not using the server. This is still expensive as compared to Zoom's annual plan that comes for 12k. But if you value security over cost and/or can afford or justify this spend, I'd highly recommend self-hosting your video conferencing infra. https://github.com/mavenik/jitsi-terraform/tree/master/aws#simulcast-streaming-and-recording-with-jibri-optional

I wanted to learn something new during this lockdown but nothing stuck. Suddenly I had to format my computer and the pain of installing infinite things came back. Went ahead to look for a way to automate this and learnt Ansible. Cool stuff, I can say better than shell scripts. https://gist.github.com/ankitsinghaniyaz/a1a1185b3027327502a3d70f6b32271e This is a script that setups a Ubuntu(ish) linux with all the tools a web developer needs... rbenv, nvm, ssh key for github, etc, slack, zoom, mysql and postgresql(both configured to work with rails out of box, yes) and some more useful tools :)

I just shipped the first version of my web app https://qurated.io/ The main idea behind Qurated is to create a place to discover new and interesting content feeds curated by other community members. Right now it supports widely known feed types like Youtube channels, twitter accounts, subreddits, RSS etc. I'm trying to get some feedback on the user interface/design before I release it on ProductHunt so please do check it out and let me know if you have any suggestions

I wrote an informal essay on "Spending Less". Of the 4 popular ways of growing wealth, spending less the most achievable. In this essay, I present a technique I've learned over many years, which works great for me and a lot of people I know. Turns out, this technique can be neatly explained by behavioural science. https://info.pagnis.in/blog/2020/05/31/spending-less/

Am I the only one using Windows as my primary OS for development? I hope not. 😅 . I've built a completely free and open source windows based tool to monitor and analyze your system's power and battery usage over time! 🔋 🚀 Just launched on ProductHunt right now at: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/powir - Do check it out and give any feedback. 😃 Hackernews Discussion: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23515694

Hey everyone, I just launched something that I worked on more than a year ago with some new additions. The platform now takes into account the passport you have along with the travel restrictions due to COVID. I’d love some feedback and support from the community on Product Hunt - https://www.producthunt.com/posts/try-indigo

Hello, with everyone working remotely, one of the challenges that we wanted to solve was to keep team-spirit high and team camaraderie intact. We’re excited to be launching Trivia for slack on Product hunt today. If your workplace is on Slack, you should try out Trivia too! Trivia quizzes are fun, easy to launch, and provide a quick 5-minute break to your workday. And they’re real-time, meaning the team comes together to play! That’s the point. Please leave a Upvote if you like it and show your support: https://bit.ly/3da8NJm

Hello people! I sent out the first email of my newsletter 5 minutes ago, it’s like serving a customer even though there wasn’t any monetary txn involved, to put things in perspective I didn’t feel this nervous when I was starting up! I know it’s majorly a tech folks here in RI, but do we have any people with any inclination or interest in sales prospecting/ sales development? I would love to hear your feedback! I’m trying to improve my writing skills so feedback from anyone in general would be highly appreciated 🙂 Here’s the link- https://salesprospecting.substack.com/p/we-go-one-up-against-sherlock

Tried out VS Code remote development, and it totally blew my mind. The feeling of building/testing intensive stuff and not having any experience degradation of other applications running locally is really awesome! It is pretty easy to setup and works amazingly! 💯 Wrote some thoughts about it here ⬇️ https://twitter.com/Pothulapati/status/1277264703648002048

Inspired from the above posts 😅... I was very curious to try Blazor during the #MSBuild Event held few weeks back. The first try ended up in an error, so was the second try and posted the screenshot in Twitter which became a Thread of my learning process, haha. I hope it be helpful read for anyone who wants to get an intro of Blazor. https://twitter.com/zeshhaan/status/1264159249250172929

Hey Folks Recently we built a very handy tool at ScaleReal for people working with multiple cloud based crons (AWS Cloudwatch Cron, Unix Cron, GCP Crons). It basically helps you to test out your cron expressions for various cloud based crons. Check it out here https://www.cronsformer.com/ Let me know if you have any feedback

Hey guys, I just launched Data-led Academy, an initiative to foster data-literacy and help folks become data-led. Some of you might wonder, how is being data-led any different from being data-driven.. Well, being data-driven is to base decisions exclusively on available data, without understanding its origin or questioning its accuracy. On the other hand, someone who is data-led has a good understanding of all aspects of data and is able to make data-informed decisions while also factoring in their intuition and experience. Most importantly, one doesn't need a technical background to be data-led. In fact, it is more important for folks working in customer-facing roles to embrace data literacy by combining their core competency with the ability to work with data. Through the introductory course, Customer Data Pro, I aim to teach the ins and outs of customer data in a format that enables rapid learning (no videos, just text + interactive exercises; if you like to read, you will find it easy to follow). And it's free to get started! More info about the course can be found here: https://learn.dataled.academy/ Would love to hear your unfiltered thoughts on the initiative!

Tribe, Specifically, those with engineering, development, and product jobs and backgrounds. How would you rate your own SQL skills? A mastery in SQL gives you an edge, unlike any other tool. Building a robust persistence layer is a primary part of building applications. If you are a backend engineer, then more often than not, it's going to be a relational database. For that reason, over the last 3-4 years, I have been teaching relational DBs to engineers, helping them get better at all things RDBMS through an in-person workshop. SQL is naturally a prominent part of it. In-person is not possible anymore, so I decided to take it online. Presenting Part 1, where we will learn the 2 foundational concepts that make up a query and 1 robust technique to approach writing queries, that works every single time. https://queries.fun/
