    I'm new. How do I get started? 1. Introduce yourself! Don't be shy. Share a few lines on the #intro channel about what you do and what your intention is for joining the community. That said this doesn't have to be a big deal! Just a simple hello is great, so we can wave at you. πŸ‘‹ 2. Browse the below channels to decide what whets your appetite - πŸ”₯ #tribe - Main thread to chat with the community - πŸƒ #random - Non-work banter and water cooler conversation - πŸ“£ #announcements - Keep an eye out here about what's going on at RemoteIndian - πŸ“š #book-club - Participate in the discussion where we are reading 1 book every month - πŸ€— #buddy-calls - Pairing up once every 2 weeks to make sure everyone's feeling supported - πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ #fitness - A place to share your workouts/runs/physical activities - ⚑ #focus-buddy - Schedule 50-minute work sessions on Livestream with a partner and start shipping - πŸ”Œ #our-work - A place to plug your article that you wrote recently or share the landing page of your awesome project. - πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ’» #work-opportunities - Reach out to folks if you are looking for a new gig. Also, it will be awesome if you could share leads in your network. - πŸ“– #what-i-am-reading - Share any interesting book or blog post that you read recently. - πŸ“œ #resources - Dedicated place to share useful guides for those looking for part-time/full-time or freelance remote opportunities. - πŸ™Œ #community-feedback - A place for you to make this space a much better place thanks to your unique perspective - πŸ’¬ #suggest-a-channel - Pretty self-explanatory. Right ??

    πŸ“£ <!here> I have found that my desire to always be available on RemoteIndian slack group is affecting my productivity πŸ“‰ I wrote this in the RemoteIndian slack manual but I am not leading by example πŸ“ https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GyVZ80wFMxJ6on0MHvFNjGvkBfZA4htpvBPO4DrVt5g/edit?usp=sharing
    We encourage an β€œasynchronous” way of doing things. That means approaching our work and our relationships with intention and presence rather than obligation and pressure.
    That is why I have decided to only login into slack 2-5 times every day. I hope it does not turn you off that the main guy is not green πŸ™ I really believe that "deep work" is the only way to provide maximum value to you. And I will surely get back to your post/query when the time is right for me. That said, I am always up for planned calls or meetings. And during an emergency, you can contact me using the number mentioned on my slack profile. Feel free to let me know whether this is a good idea or a really weird/bad one πŸ˜…πŸ˜„ πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ*I want this to be a community of practice rather than a community of presence* ⚑

    πŸ“£ <!here> It will be awesome if you can fill this form for creating a RemoteIndian directory πŸ‘‰ https://goo.gl/forms/S6clneO5gwYKxKRm1 Time required: Less than the time it takes to make Maggi ⚑
    How will this directory be helpful ?
    - Let's collect all this info in a central place which is easily visible and searchable. If you want help regarding growth hacking, you can search the google sheet to find that @average-judge-62891 is your guy. Similar examples would be @swift-pilot-25722 for Data Analytics, @wide-church-17574 for CryptoCurrency and Blockchain. The #intro thread is good, but it's not very useful after the first πŸ‘‹πŸΌ - If you want to physically meet someone in your city, you can search by place. - I don't want to be the bottleneck for useful information PS: Your feedback is highly welcome πŸ™πŸΌ

    πŸ“£ <!channel> I have renamed #community-feedback to #meta channel after being inspired by this page -> https://stackoverflow.com/help/whats-meta
    What is "meta"? How does it work?
    Meta RemoteIndian is the part of the site where users discuss the workings and policies of RemoteIndian. It is separated from the other channels to reduce noise there while providing a legitimate space for people to ask how and why this site works the way it does. Meta is for... - RemoteIndian users to communicate with each other about RemoteIndian (asking questions about how this community works, or about policies and community decisions) - RemoteIndian users can post bugs, suggest improvements, or propose new features, and - Also it helps me in soliciting feedback on new ideas or features, or discussing policies that affect the whole network I really want you all to play a big role in defining the possibilities for this space. Happy to hear what you think πŸ™‚

    πŸ€” What is a good and vibrant community ? - A good community is one where everyone is stronger because we are together - A good community is one where we leverage everyone's potential to fulfil our personal goals - A good community is one where someone inspires the tribe to expect more from themselves - A good community is one which has a lot of heart
    "Community is a quality of the heart, the fruit of our capacity to make the interests of others more important than our own" - Nouwen
    --- This community is a highly complex network of people from different backgrounds, places, careers, experience and I am afraid programming languages πŸ˜› Having said that, there is a lot of potential in our tribe. And I want to unleash all the possibilities πŸ”₯πŸš’ ---
    πŸ“£ Introducing Karmabot πŸŽ‰
    <!channel> In order to promote quality and generosity in this slack group, I want to experiment with @steep-window-4775 to give and track karma points. I feel every good community does need a robust karma system to incentivise good behaviour. And I feel we have found a gem in @steep-window-4775.
    "If you give a good thing to the world, then over time your karma will be good, and you'll receive good."
    It's very easy to appreciate someone using the slack interface. Some examples below πŸ‘‡
    Copy code
    @sankalp ++ shared Thank you for sharing lessons learned from Atomic Habits
    @aravind 2++ shared Appreciate that you shared job opportunities in Elastic
    @suhas 3++ Thanks for organising the meetup in Bangalore
    @rushal ++ Thank you for offering feedback on my work
    What are the rules ??
    Please distribute your karma points judiciously as there is limited amounts. Right now it's set to 30 points for each user every month ( happy to discuss any changes to that number in #meta channel ) These are just guiding principles. Feel free to break them. And obviously they do not cover all the beautiful possibilities πŸ™‚
    Copy code
    Max karma points that can be given in offered is 5
    - Plan a meetup in your city +3
    - Share job leads from your personal network +2
    - Being awesome (eg. share a good resource, offer feedback/advice) +1
    - Attend a meetup +1
    - No show in buddy-call -1
    There is automatic karma calculation for reactions to any post. I think it's 0.1 if I remember correctly. So maybe sometimes emoticons are good enough. You can always type
    /karma mantra
    or
    @karmabot mantra
    to display these rules/guidelines ( which should be updated every few months ). ⚠️ As I mentioned earlier, I want folks to be mindful enough to switch off slack notifications ( or even stay offline ) and check the updates once or twice a day. Let's not focus on adding value at the cost of deep work. Interesting things happen when you do interesting work. ⚠️⚠️ All appreciations and weekly leaderboard will be shared in #kudos channel ( and also as DMs) --- Do let me know what you think about this. Share your suggestions/ideas πŸ€— P.S. Use
    /karma tour
    to get a 5 minute tour of all the features. I think not all features are applicable to us because we are on a free plan. But we do have all the important ones πŸ˜„

    πŸ“£ <!here> Did you know we have a slack users directory πŸ‘‰ https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XVtFw8fdChmMZEX6dYnAKZQcJrU6v5O7OAylynL8E-8/edit?usp=sharing πŸ€” Why ?? β˜• Let's say you want to meet like minded people in your city, you can search by place in this sheet and plan something. ❓ Also if you need help in a particular topic, there is relevant searchable info in a central place. Now if you find value in this idea, then please do enter your details as well πŸ™ πŸ‘‰ https://goo.gl/forms/S6clneO5gwYKxKRm1 PS: If you have any privacy concerns about this data, then please share them. πŸ“£ <!here> How many developers here actually want to work remotely, but are not able to πŸ€” I am planning to mentor a group of 3 folks for a period of 6 months. πŸ’¬ Original beliefs ( likely to change ) - First step to successful remote job requires getting to skill-market fit without burning out - Books/Online courses/Job Boards are dime a dozen but contextual application is critical. They are only seasoning while the follow ups are the real protein that helps build skill-market & go-to-market muscle - Peers are force multipliers in making progress and they help you keep sanity - Skin in the game, both upside and downside is crucial, establishes the right foundation for co-creation between mentees and mentors 🚨 DM me if you are interested Hopefully I will be able to help you become incredibly successful ( read: Earn >10lpa with no constraints on time and location ) 😊
