With impeding Latest/Latest-1 support schedule can somebody clarify the supported timelines? With LTS it's clear, we have 6 months of overlapping support to update from LTS to new LTS. But in the future, we will be on Latest-1, because Latest will be inherently unstable - look at 2025.11.0 above. When exactly support starts and ends ? it seems we are going from 2.5 years to just one?

I'm guessing this was probably meant for #C19V5U41Z channel, but you can find the lifecycle documented here: puppet.com/products/puppet-enterprise/support-lifecycle Support for PE 2025 has already started (as of its release in 2025 and will end when the next 'latest' comes out after PE 2026 (which is predicted to be in August 2027). So PE 2025 will have 2 years of support. I agree it's not clear right now (or rather, is not stated at all) if there is still a 6-month overlap period. My understanding is there is no overlap period. So in your situation where you would prefer to stay on the stable releases that do not get new features, you would transition from PE 2023 to PE 2025 at some point after August 2026, and then to PE 2026 when the subsequent (planned to be PE 2027 in August 2027) is released.

darn, sorry, yes
but in this case, less then a year of support on any given version?
Why was I allowed to post to announce? 🙂

I guess announce is a happy place for us all to be 😄 It should be noted there are no 'years' for any given version on the latest/latest-1. For example, 2025 is predicted to have 2 years of support (until August 2027) but things may change and a new major version could be released later than predicted (or not at all in that year) if not needed. But for right now, the plan is to try to target annual major version changes to allow each version to have a 2 year lifespan: 1 year getting new features, 1 year getting stability/security support. This does mean moving to an annual upgrade as opposed to every two years upgrade. (Personally, I think even annual is going to be rough given how fast things are changing with all the vulnerabilities coming out)

I agree. constantly maintaining infrastructure is not sustainable
applying security fixes once in awhile is fine
