@iamclaytonray the problem with country/state as an Enum is that data is now in your code, and you're effectively changing compatibility by changing the enum.

(especially when some systems may use integer representations of enums internally)

You also can't have additional properties associated, as an enum is just a label, nothing more.

I wouldn’t really describe enums as labels. I’m not sure what you mean by changing compatibility. Enums are “constants”. You shouldn’t need to change

, for example

I just try to avoid creating more tables but every app has different requirements 😄

But states and countries are mutable in the realworld

In fact, in the US, there may soon be a new state (part of california is leaving the rest)

So representing mutable real world concepts as immutable data structures would be wrong.
