For relay, you need to use the Relay endpoint 🙏

😄 sounds reasonable. Thanks but maybe add this to the docs 😉

Any docs about the technical differences between the simple and relay endpoints?

    Have you seen https://docs.graph.cool/reference/simple-api#differences-to-the-relay-api

Hey, just a quick question, why would you want us to sign up for "all features of the documentation" ?

Hey @kadrian! Sorry about the confusion. We're currently in the process of rolling out a new version of the documentation which will be more integrated with the dashboard. This will make more sense in the future!

Can I help you with something else in the meanwhile?

I think I start understanding slowly, graph.cool is not a graphql-template, but some kind of a dashboard that helps me control my backend (database)?
  • s

    09/13/2016, 7:53 PM
More than that. We'll provide you with a hosted backend out of the box. Did you already request an invite?
  • k

    kadrian

    09/13/2016, 7:55 PM
Aha, so this is not self-hosted
  • k

    kadrian

    09/13/2016, 7:55 PM
And you'll own our data then? 😉
  • k

    09/13/2016, 7:56 PM
    I think so far I didn't
  • s

    schickling

    09/13/2016, 7:56 PM
You'll still own it yourself, we just manage + host it for you.
  • k

    kadrian

    09/13/2016, 7:57 PM
Ok. Is there a possibility to host it ourselves as well?
  • s

    schickling

    09/13/2016, 7:58 PM
No that is moment but we'll soon allow you to use your own database in the background. Would that help?

And I'm sorry, I should have read "Graphcool is a powerful & flexible GraphQL backend-as-a-service", that makes it clear

    No worries!

Yes I think that would be great. Ideally (at least from my perspective), I would run the backend myself (maybe from a docker container). Then I'd be able to access the dashboard through my browser, connect it to my own database and configure my web client to use it.

    09/13/2016, 8:04 PM
What's the upside you're aiming for when hosting the backend (excluding the database) yourself?
  • k

    09/13/2016, 8:11 PM
Hmm, I guess several things. First is privacy -> I wouldn't have to sign up, I would be sure that all data + schemas stay on my side. Secondly, I would be sure that I won't build on it / be dependant and then you're introducing a nice pricing model at some point. And third, I might even be able to use it in private / commercial projects or projects for clients.

And I'm not saying you shouldn't earn money, it actually looks like you deserve to profit, building a cool project like this

Thanks for engaging @kadrian - could you try go into a little more detail about your situation? Would you for example consider using tools like Heroku, AWS or Github for your private or client projects?
