    I know the docs aren't updated yet, but if anyone could offer a bit on what an observable is that is returned from subscribe and how to handle the API it would be hugely appreciated

    Yes to access observables, I would recommend you bring in RxJS... I don't know much about the observable that you are trying to access... have you used Observables yet?
