Did we intend to make kimi the default for open source canvas installs?
c
Good question, I think Deepseek-v4-Pro works well, with GLM-5.2 for review. I’m not aware of enough tests/feedback on Kimi to recommend it.
w
bigger issue is that you need an openhands account to make this work
I think we should probably default to Anthropic or OpenAI
c
Ah yes
@fresh-machine-37269 please open an issue on this; then restore the default to openai/gpt-5.6, reasoning high. We should do it by making an LLM profile by default. Clone yourself both openhands and agent-sdk from openhands org.

It’s a tradeoff… I think it’s nice to be able to encourage people to use our proxy, which has models we know work well with openhands. But if you think openai or anthropic are better to have as defaults at the risk of people not realizing that the openhands proxy is an option then I’m ok with that too. cc @millions-crayon-32880

⏳ Still working — this is taking longer than this run allows. Follow along at the link above; mention me again for an update.

Graham, sorry, I’d like to make a note here. I believe this is a matter of friction, and there’s much more friction in using
openhands/
currently, for a new user, than well-known providers. FWIW, here's my thinking… Let's say I’m Bob, a new user. Bob is highly likely to have an OpenAI or Anthropic API key, and not likely at all to have an OpenHands Cloud account. Bob using
openhands/
scenario:
• Bob sees
openhands/GLM
is recommended, ok • needs to click to go to the Cloud • where he clicks on new account, clicks to accept Tos and such • he returns on the canvas • but he gets an error, because there is no API key • so he clicks back to the Cloud • and needs to make an LLM API key • but he can’t, it’s another error, since it doesn’t work with 0 credits • so he clicks on Billing, enters a credit card, and tops up • then he returns to canvas -> it won’t work • he needs to go to Cloud API keys tab, and copy the key • return and paste it. Bob using OpenAI/Anthropic scenario: • Bob fiddles around his laptop to find his OpenAI/Anthropic key • pastes it => done. Any steps that can be removed/simplified from the first scenario would be great IMHO. At any step of that process the user might give up. In an ideal world, it would be more like… Ideal scenario - Bob using
openhands/
• Bob sees
openhands/GLM
and thinks ok let’s try • (maybe click to make account, click for Tos) • sent back and continues in canvas. No more fiddling, maybe no pasting. Since it’s currently for free on the Cloud, I wonder if, by any chance, it could be linked to a service account or “trial account”, and just work, for e.g. 60 mins. Or 600 requests. Or 2 conversations, each up to 1k events. Then ask the user to make an account or paste keys. Or something that could remove/reduce the friction?

Thanks! I don’t have a strong opinion here.
