# proj-agent-canvas
c
Per earlier discussion with @wooden-umbrella-84098 and @quick-window-91705 Zero-friction startup for agent-canvas (#348): Right now
npm run dev
defaults to Docker mode and fails if Docker isn't installed. The proposal is to flip that —
npm run dev
always starts a local backend immediately, and a tiny "setup server" (~110 lines, localhost-only) lets the onboarding UI spin up a Docker backend on demand. Users would multi-select Local + Docker in a new "Choose Backend" step, so both can run side-by-side. I've attached a walkthrough HTML (open in browser) with architecture diagrams, a UI mockup, and a diff summary of the implementation. Would love feedback on whether this is the right direction before we go deeper — especially on the setup server approach vs. alternatives.

Nice! Just one thing to consider is to add a flag to bypass this setup for easier remote setup maybe just a remote flag
