Coarse Bristles brush display error
# open-brush-bugs
m
I tried the latest update. This version fixes many of the bugs I mentioned earlier, and the lighting effects are beautiful. It would be even better if you could fix the problem with the coarse bristles as well. Some brush types aren't displayed perfectly; I'll update the details later. But overall, I like this version. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1478068505684217916/1478068506439454781/Recording_2026-03-02_231900_-_Trim.mp4?ex=69a70e11&is=69a5bc91&hm=04a344a4fe69aed08d441dc4b21aa49aa907f5e88046a15df3298abd1320ac9f&

Damn. I thought I had fixed coarse bristles! Any specific platform got a problem or just all of them? (Will test again myself later)

This error only appears on PCs; other versions run fine.
a
And can I check that you exported again since we updated open brush yesterday? beta version?
anastasia says the only issue she can see with coarse bristles is slightly washed out colors
m
Yesterday, I published it after Open Brush automatically updated to the Default Public Version. https://worlds.viverse.com/75g7qsP I'll try again with the Beta version to see what happens.
a
ah. that's a slightly new problem. ugh
Think I've got a fix
a
Yeah. I've kinda reached the limit of my knowledge regarding three.js shaders. I'm going to need some help to progress this much more.
actually - i wonder if it's lighting - and not specific to coarse bristles. let me check
yeah. any lit brushes (i.e. paint, paper, ink etc) are too dark. I applied a fix that is theoretically correct but looks wrong. i'll remove that and look into it more deeply
oh wait. i only tested on legacy sketches from poly. let me test on yours.
want to send me your most recent .tilt file?
which of these looks more correct?
m
The version below is better. This is the latest update; I've changed some of the light brushes to reduce the impact on the coarse bristle brushes. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yGwfPidhQdzLAYzM2U0YL1RKxcJhjYPs/view?usp=sharing https://worlds.viverse.com/LJ3be5W
I was very pleased with the lighting of this version.
a
> The version below is better. Yeah - but which version matches the original in open brush closer?
so i'm going to change back to that (that was the original lighting calculation before the most recent update)
For uploads to Icosa Gallery I can eventually make it easy to tweak color balance, add post-processing etc. Not sure if Viverse would want to support that kind of thing on their side though.
Maybe I can allow editing/tweaking on Icosa and then publish to Viverse from there. That would be the best of both worlds.
m
Yeah, although the current process is simple, I had to publish dozens of versions to choose the one I wanted best.
a
the goal is that they look almost exactly as they do in open brush. if they don't then it's something we should treat as a bug
