envision and monado on linux
# open-brush-chat
d
i have an issue where openbrush doesnt detect my hmd, i am using envision and monado on linux, it opens but doesnt detect any headset
a
Not something I know much about. I've heard of monado Do you have a link for envision?
@mikesky might know more than me
m
Don’t use the Linux version, you’ll need to use the windows version
Unity doesn’t support Linux OpenXR 🙃
d
so i need to use the windows version with proton?
https://lvra.gitlab.io/docs/fossvr/envision/ envision is basically a way to more easily configure, build and use monado.
m
Yes, sorry for the inconvenience. I'm hoping the Steam Frame will eventually lead to a native OpenXR target in Unity, but Valve are just too damn good at translation layers 😅
d
yeah no problems, and thank you!
just tested it works fine. one other thing id say you should add is a disclaimer for those on linux that the linux version only works in desktop mode so far due to that issue. but other than that i am happy and again thank you!
a
Where would you have expected to see that disclaimer? i.e. what route did you take to download it and what would have caught your eye?
d
either where you download it on github if thats possible https://github.com/icosa-foundation/open-brush/releases or if the app itself launches on linux instead of having a no vr headset detected error have something like no vr headset detected, disclaimer: you need to use the windows version with proton to be able to use vr, something along those lines.
or have it on the itch.io page https://openbrush.itch.io/openbrush that there is a linux version but that its recommended to use the windows version with proton.
and on the steam page for openbrush aswell ideally.
just to make sure no else one stumbles over this.
