Hello lovely community! I’m organising a small in-person collaboration fest (CoFest) at The Open University (Walton Hall, Milton Keynes, MK7 6AA) on 15–17 September, in parallel with a Data to Discovery training event on single-cell analysis. This event is part of my BioFAIR pathfinder project Connecting Bioconductor, Galaxy, and nf-core. Benefits: • Free registration • Catering included • Limited support for travel and accommodation • Approx. 10 places available • Flexible attendance on any or all of the three days The CoFest will bring together developers and trainers from the Bioconductor, Galaxy, and nf-core communities to discuss practical challenges around making Bioconductor methods more interoperable across workflow ecosystems. The goal is to identify concrete FAIR interoperability challenges, prototype solutions where feasible, discuss shared standards, and outline guidance for future collaborative work. Activities will be a mix of discussion and hands-on coding, with outcomes ranging from small code contributions to design recommendations for longer-term developments. The programme is deliberately flexible, with some mini-projects to choose from and space for more to be proposed by participants, e.g. • Wrapping Bioconductor methods into Galaxy tools and nf-core modules (starting with this single-cell analysis workflow) • Adding metadata to Bioconductor packages to improve FAIR standards • Discussing choices of file types for interoperability outside of R / Bioconductor • Guidance for tutorial and workflow development showcasing interoperability across software ecosystems (PS: apologies for the multiple edits to this post, I accidentally hit the send button while typing.)

Quick side-note as much as a shoutout to the developer of the BiocJobs R/Bioconductor package. > BiocJobs is a lightweight framework that lets a Bioconductor package declare, inside the package itself, the units of work it can perform non-interactively — jobs — and then automatically generates everything workflow infrastructure needs to dispatch those jobs: GA4GH TES task definitions, Galaxy tool wrappers, Nextflow DSL2 modules, WDL tasks, a machine-readable manifest for registry building — and more. I'd like to spend part of the CoFest toying with that package alongside nf-core users and developers, applying it to new use cases and gathering feedback on its current and desired future functionality.
