Hi <!channel>! Our wonderful <!subteam^S02LZS1KLDR> met a few days ago to plan the upcoming nf-core hackathon, to be held at the Nextflow Summit in Barcelona (see previous messages above). We've been going through the feedback that we've had from previous events and will make a few tweaks this time: • 🧑🏻‍💻 It won't be hybrid, just in-person ◦ Hybrid hackathons worked ok at first, but as the in-person events get bigger it becomes very difficult to maintain presence in both places. ◦ We had 70 people at Barcelona last year and already have 92 registered for this year (we're hoping to get past 100!). So this is a problem that is only going to get more difficult. ◦ Our solution is to ditch the hybrid events for Barcelona / Boston Summits and focus on in-person only. We will double down on the remote / distributed hackathon in March next year for folks who can't make it to Barcelona. ◦ We will be using Slack still, so of course you're welcome to pretend it's hybrid and join remotely - there just won't be streamed meetings, Gather.town online space or catering for multiple time zones. • 🎯 We're making project groups smaller and more specific ◦ A similar growing pain, our loose topic groups are getting big and a little unstructured. We heard that some folks felt lost and also group leaders were overwhelmed. ◦ Instead we want you to bring project ideas, which we will categorise into those broader groups. People were doing this unofficially already but we want to bring some structure and visibility to it so that newcomers find it easier to join in. ◦ No need to sign up to join groups, you can just pick on the day and move between them as you like. • 💬 Not all projects will just be about coding ◦ Yeah, it's called a hackathon but this time we have several folks who want to meet to discuss and plan more conceptual things. For example, collaboration on the new #C05V42SU8DP and #C070369GP7T special interest groups. ◦ This in-person collaboration and networking is hugely valuable and often doesn't get talked about as much. So, what do we want from you? 1. 🎟️ If you haven't already, register to come to the hackathon! a. You have a couple of days left before the 20% discount runs out, so go go go! 2. S Join the new #C07HZCK6YE4 Slack channel a. Everyone is welcome here, you don't have to be registered already. Feel free to join even if you're just curious. 3. 💡 PROPOSE NEW GROUP PROJECTS alert a.
