@stocky-sandwich-45001 We measure your upstream and downstream traffic no matter what “type” (audio, video, ...) it is. To answer your question, the calculation is video plus audio, not video or audio. For most applications with both video and audio traffic, the video part is much more significant (perhaps a reason why we have dropped it from the calculation). But I agree that the calculator is not very clear in communicating this. Thanks for your feedback, we will try to improve the calculator to make it less ambiguous. :)

Thanks for the answer 🙂 But fyi you write on your pricing page that the “60min HD video conference*”* with 9 (3x3) participants costs 1.75$. But thats only true without any audio. With audio for each participant in 20 kbps it’s 1,86$. I know it’s not a big difference and I don’t want to blame somebody. It’s really only to improve maybe also here the information on the page. But honestly I think “60min HD video conference” without audio makes no sense. So maybe the best solution is to change it to 1.86$. Maybe other bigger calculations on the page are also affected. And I’m sorry for this long answer if I calculated it totally wrong 😄

Just to add: the calculator is meant to give you a “rough” estimate of your costs (hence why, at least as of right now, we don’t include audio in the calc). Your point on the pricing page is fair. We should either include the audio component for accuracy or do ~$1.75. We’ll take a look at updating this. Thanks Dennis!

Thank you both for the explanation! If I could help in any way I am glad and if it was only by my confusion 😄

As a side note: it's quite challenging to accurately predict audio usage. Typically in a multi-user meeting, most users that aren't speaking leave themselves muted. In those cases, no data is being transmitted and therefore there will be no charge. DTX also reduces the amount of bandwidth used even if the user isn't muted. What that means is the average bandwidth consumed per user is actually much lower than 20kbps. So in comparison to the bitrate used for video in a typical meeting, it's a quite small (~1%) of the overall cost.

Thanks for the clarification 🙏 I had already thought something like that.
