right now I don't believe there's a way to export metrics (@dry-elephant-14928 would know for sure) but may I ask what you're interested in learning from these metrics?
d
for monitoring across our stack
d
currently there isn't a way to export metrics. we'd be interested in supporting this in some way in the future though. which metrics are you looking for primarily?
d
i'm not too sure as this is new to us but would love to see rooms opening and close, bandwidth user, number of users, etc Basically similar to what is offered via the livkit dashboard now
b
FYI: some of these information are available through the Server SDK API, but only while the room is active. Once its closed, then you wouldn't have these stats.
d
How would I expose that server sdk api directly to DataDog? Sorry I'm a noob to Livekit
@wooden-room-47545 - here
b
What I'm thinking is having a server waiting for a webhook events then that could trigger data push to DataDog. This said, you wouldn't receive all the metrics which are currently available in the cloud's dashboard.
a
I’m curious about why you want to build a dashboard with the same metrics as the Cloud Dashboard though — you don’t trust us?? 😂😉
b
@acoustic-engineer-41666, I could see this being used for billing clients
d
@acoustic-engineer-41666 - so we have all our Observability and Monitoring in one pane of glass

a
Ahh okay, yeah these are good use cases
d
and quickly correlate metrics across our stack of which Livekit is just one component

a
I wonder whether it would be easier for you if we just let you load our dashboard graphs in an iframe
d
Also i notice you guys don't have a status page for your Cloud
a
Oh have you seen https://status.livekit.io/ ?
d
ah okay missed that one - thanks @acoustic-engineer-41666
a
We should link it more prominently 😅
👍 1
d
I use DataDog to check on status pages for all our upstream services when available via the RSS feeds :)
😲 1
Yeah a first class integrations to DataDog, NewRelic, etc... would be a big plus for us clients 🙂
Start with DataDog please - selfishly haha

@acoustic-engineer-41666 I would add it as a Bookmark to this channel 🙂

Yeah I'm more than willing to be the guinea for you guys and if we get some breaks on cost for the help my management would probably love us. 😁

Okay thank you guys. Please inform me of on any progress on this. Have a great morning, day, or night!
a
Ok we’ll look into that and let you know! 😁

It is good start to look into Bigbluebutton exporter ( https://bigbluebutton-exporter.greenstatic.dev/ ). This Prometheus exporter that can hook into each bbb instance. BBB exporter export following metrics: • Number of participants by type (listeners, voice, video) • Number of participants by client (HTML5, dial-in, flash) • Number of recordings (processing, published, unpublished, deleted, unprocessed). - we can do the same with egress service keeping post stats in redis • Number of participants in rooms by bucket As livekit exposure some of metrics via Prometheus, i think it will better if you can create a exporter for it ( which will help many with observability use cases on your livekit servers health).

Thanks @faint-army-19363 will take a look
@acoustic-engineer-41666 / @brief-refrigerator-69901 I have another question and that is most of users for one of our event is going to be coming from EU. I looked in our existing project and there does not seem to be away to configure a region. I also tried creating a new project and was not given and opportunity to choose a region closes to my users. Thanks, Virath
a
You get multiregion support for free! We currently have regions in US east/west, Europe (Frankfurt), and Asia (Singapore). Our Cloud infra automatically routes clients to the nearest node. We keep an eye on traffic so we can spin up new regions if we see more traffic from different areas, but you can also let us know if you anticipate needing a new region

Great thank you @acoustic-engineer-41666!
@acoustic-engineer-41666 - is there a away to download the Cloud dashboard info to csv or json easily?
a
Not currently. If there were an endpoint that let you do this, what auth method would be easiest for you?
(just thinking about what it would take to support this feature — right now the only auth methods we have are Google and Github OAuth, neither of which are bot-friendly)
d
Google auth would be fine. But either Github or Google is fine
a
wait but you want to automatically, periodically download the csv/json data, right? or are you thinking about manually downloading now?
d
atm the moment i'm having to do screen scrap to get the data into GSheet lol
for now a way to just download is fine but if would be great if there was an api that i can hit and grab the data
so i alway have live data
a
oh dang 😓 which data are you most interested in? (ie, which tables/graphs?)
d
but i would settle for a just away to do download it or if you guys can even give it me i would take that too anything with csv or json would be better than screen scraping lol
basically right now i need the finished session data
it would great if you can give me dec 1st- 3rd
we had our first event and i need data to do some analysis
if you can i will take a dump from earlier as well
a
ah ok. we can get you something tomorrow, if you don’t mind waiting until then
d
0kay thanks
hey @acoustic-engineer-41666 any status on this sir?
a
Just getting to it now, I need your project id (or the subdomain name) to grab this data for you
d
okay I will DM you

@acoustic-engineer-41666 some UI suggestions for the cloud Dashboard screen: • “Active” suggests current, so would recommend the line chart for “Active participants” reflect “Total Participants” • Seeing participants by day is interesting, but aligning with billing (which is monthly) as an option/filter would be helpful. Perhaps a way to change the line chart to show other intervals such as monthly • The line chart showing daily/monthly will be super helpful, and having a similar chart for rooms and bandwidth (by day/month) would be equally as helpful. • By doing the above, customers would be able to better align their monthly spend by rooms, participants or bandwidth - and reflect backwards in order to better forecast those KPI’s moving forward
a
We’re actually redoing a bunch of this stuff right now; this is great feedback & stay tuned :)
