Thanks — I’m replying about why your dashboard shows Argentina and whether a VPN could cause that.
Yes — LiveKit determines participant location from the IP address the client presents. If a participant is connected through a VPN whose exit server is in Argentina, their IP will resolve to Argentina and the dashboard will show that country. IP-based geolocation can also occasionally be incorrect for other reasons, but VPNs are the most common explanation.
What you can do next
• Ask participants if they’re using a VPN or privacy/proxy service and, if appropriate, have them disable it for a test call.
• If you need to verify a specific session, tell me the room name and approximate time of the join and I can help look into that session’s details.
• If you prefer a longer-term approach, I can outline options for logging or collecting additional metadata (for example, client-supplied location fields) to help disambiguate IP-based location in future demos.
Let me know which of the above you’d like to try or share the room/time info and I’ll help investigate.
