ah, there was a recent android gradle plugin that required java 17. I think they fixed it to go back to 1.8, so I’ll put out another release that addresses this
🙌 1
until then, you can try upping your java version in your build.gradle to java 17 with this:
Copy code
android {
    ...
    compileOptions {
        sourceCompatibility JavaVersion.VERSION_17
        targetCompatibility JavaVersion.VERSION_17
    }

    kotlinOptions {
        jvmTarget = JavaVersion.VERSION_17
    }
}
t
I tried exactly that, then did "Sync now" in Android studio, but still the same error, don't know why it didn't work.
e
ah try
Copy code
kotlinOptions {
        jvmTarget = "17"
    }
t
I tried that too 🙂 But no change in the outcome.
e
hmm I just ran into it a little while ago, but forgot how I resolved it, lemme try to repro
try closing and reloading the project?
seems like that jvm target warning doesn’t get updated alongside with gradle sync, but closing/reopening fixes it for me after setting the 17 target
t
Hmm, ok, I thought I did that too, but maybe it was with different setup. Yes, that seems to help, thanks!

How about this - is this something wrong here or there?
e
Do you have jitpack added to your repositories list?
t
Ok, I had an error from the repository config, which was on the Quickstart page: subprojects { repositories { google() mavenCentral() // ... maven { url 'https://jitpack.io' } } } This works:
Copy code
maven {
    url = uri("<https://jitpack.io>")
}
I think the config syntax on the Quickstart page isn't correct for a Kotlin project.
But I still get this when I try to build (I did Clean, Rebuild, restarted).
It would be useful to have an example project for Android which doesn't have the SDK included as source (like the examples here have https://github.com/livekit/client-sdk-android)).

It seems that the correct file for repositories in a Kotlin application would be
/settings.gradle.kts
.. but I still get the same "not found" error. I don't know much about Android development.
e
the settings.gradle.kts file you have should work, can you send an updated image of the error?
t
e
you included an extra dependency which is causing the errors:
Copy code
implementation("com.github.Username:RepositoryName:Tag")
t
Ok, I don't know how that has gotten there. I haven't typed it myself for sure. But thanks. I think it would be helpful to separate the samples from the SDK repo though. One would usually create the app with the released SDK and a sample app that uses that instead of the SDK with sources would be simpler.
