Connection limits
To ensure the stability of our network and to prevent abuse, Livekit projects have limitations on the number of concurrent connections. Service may be disrupted when these limits are exceeded.
If you expect more concurrent ingresses, you can request an increase of the limit. We are happy to increase the number to meet your needs. (FYI: You must be on a paid plan to request a limit increase).
f
thanks, yes we have a paid plan.
I guess it was more a question as to why the limit is in place for WHIP? I'm guessing the ingress with RTMP and WHIP with transcoding is computationally expensive so you would want to limit that... but with WHIP without transcoding, I would see that as functionally equivalent to a normal participant connecting to a room and sharing their screen / camera
we would be looking at using WHIP to replace our current method of publish a video and audio track, where we connect to a room as a participant using the datachannel and then publish the webrtc tracks
however it's going to be difficult to do that if there's an ingress connection limit - even if we had it increased, we would want to do this for potentially 100s of rooms concurrently

A fair question, to which I don’t know the exact answer. But rest assured that we’ll be happy to raise the limits to fit all your ingress connections comfortably. Since I’m not an expert in this area: cc @chilly-animal-65189 @magnificent-art-43333 (because of the US holiday the answer may take until tomorrow)

Feel free to talk to us about removing roadblocks so we can help you get where you want to go.

thanks @eager-zoo-16408 ! much appreciated

@fresh-computer-5572 I’ll let @dry-elephant-14928 or Benjamin weigh in, but even if you aren’t transcoding, you’re still consuming Ingress resources with every job. Intuitively, the limit could probably be higher in this case, though there still needs to be a limit.

The limit is mostly there so that folks don't incur unexpectedly high bills. It's also a way to make sure we have a chance to chat and make sure everything is setup properly on both sides

hi @chilly-animal-65189 - do you think it would be worth setting up a call between ourselves (jugo, I work with @fresh-computer-5572 and run the platform team over here) and livekit? to go over our setup/requirements and how we intend to use livekit?

Hey @stocky-yacht-58217, we spoke back in February. Hope you've been well 🙂 A call to discuss your setup, requirements, and intentions sounds useful. I'll DM you to schedule a day / time
