Hi Lightdash team, Is there a way to copy the contents of a published space into a user’s personal space? The use case is that a user has view access to a published space and wants to make changes to the dashboards in their own personal space. Currently, duplicating a dashboard doesn’t clone the underlying charts, so the copied dashboard isn’t independently editable. This is similar to Tableau/Power BI where user can download the workbook/report and make changes in the desktop version. Could we have a “Copy space” option that duplicates the space, dashboards, and associated charts?

Hi @ekatabavkar90 There's no bulk "copy space" action today. Duplicating a dashboard clones charts created directly within it, but charts saved separately in a space and just added as tiles still point back to the original. I have opened an issue proposing an option to also duplicate those linked charts (and pick a destination space) when duplicating a dashboard: github.com/lightdash/lightdash/issues/28908. For now, the workaround is to duplicate each of those charts individually from its three-dot menu, swap the copies into the duplicated dashboard's tiles, then move everything to your personal space.

Hi @Jess Hitchcock — do you know whether this is planned for release soon? We’re running into an issue when users need copies of a dashboard with different columns exposed. Duplicating a dashboard retains the same underlying charts, so editing a chart in the copy also changes it in the original dashboard. Is there a workaround we can use until the feature request is released?

Hi @ekatabavkar90 This is unfortunately not planned for development as we only have one upvote for the issue. If you are using content as code and the lightdash CLI you could try this approach to copy a dashboard with independent charts using the Lightdash CLI, agent skills and a coding agent: Prerequisites: 1. Install the Lightdash CLI - docs.lightdash.com/guides/cli/how-to-install-the-lightdash-cli 2. Login to your Lightdash project (lightdash login) - docs.lightdash.com/guides/cli/cli-authentication 3. Install the developing-in-lightdash skill - docs.lightdash.com/workflow/install-agent-skills 4. Download the dashboard:
lightdash download --dashboards <dashboard-slug>
Once the dashboard is downloaded, you can use this prompt to get the agent to create a copy of your dashboard with independent charts in a new space:
Copy my dashboard <dashboard-slug> to the <space-slug> space but create new independent charts that don't share slugs with the originals. The new charts should belong to the new dashboard, not the space. Upload everything when done.
