I tried two approaches, having hyperscript fetch registered pages every few seconds looking for changes and reloading. This worked, was simple, but had some quirks. The other is your approach with fsnotify+SSE. That works too, but requires server cooperation. I'm thinking of a minimal tool that would work like entr(1) that would be an SSE service one would run on the side allowing one to develop independent of a server.

It would be really easy to watch a directory for changes and then SSE that to the client when something changes.

Is there a way with htmx.ajax to add in an outerHtml so that it replaces the target vs inserting inside of it
  • m
I think you would need to set
    htmx.config.defaultSwapStyle = 'outerHTML'
before the request, and then revert to innerHTML after.

hello. Is there a way to make all form hx-push-url=True? and if there is, are there any caveats I should look out for?
  • h
if you put that attribute at the base of the dom, like the body tag, it will inherit down
  • m
    you can put
    hx-boost
on the body of your site and it will apply to all links and forms
  • m
I would test just to make sure it is behaving as expected
  • m
i see a small change we can make that I believe will enable that
  • m
willing to work w/ a customized version?
  • h
    ya
  • h
tbh I was planning on coming back from breakfast and making a 7b joke
  • h
but if I"m too late I won't complain
  • m
I think we should pass the
    etc
    config (which is what the
    htmx.ajax
method uses for a lot of request setup) through in the
    responseInfo
    object to
    handleAjaxResponse(elt, responseInfo)
  • m
    then in
    handleAjaxResponse
    we can look at
    responseInfo.etc.swapStyle
    if
    responseInfo.etc
    exists
  • h
you mind if I give it a shot?
  • h
if you've already started nw but that sounds a little more involved than the new event I did last time and I want to get more familar w/ the codebase
  • m
    not at all
  • m
lmk if you want me to review
  • h
    👍
  • m
it's not super clean since the response info is the best way to pass through the etc, but it's not too bad
  • m
external API > internal implementation (in the presence of tests)
  • h
    javascript testing 😦
  • m
    it's not so bad
  • h
I say a lot "it's not just good, it's good enough"
  • m
I mean, it's bad, but there is copy and paste available and the tests are set up
  • m
  • h
yeah I wrote tests for the event so I think I can work w/ that
  • m
☝️ assign this to all my students
  • h
    it's just annoying
