How to invite new junior developers to the development process? I think the average age is quite high. Why not try to onboard some young junior developers to part of the development process? I think this could take the load off the shoulders of the core-developers. What do you think?
  • m
@User is quite young, but I have to admit that had nothing to do with his initial path to contributor

places where people learn python seem like good places to recruit

I genuinely can't remember how I found intercooler

I'm only 7 mins into this talk, but I'm loving it already. Little known fact: never will you ever meet another South African again, which after a few minutes of conversation, they will NOT bring up the fact that Elon Musk is in fact a South African 😁

    Is
    hx-boost
    preferred over setting manual
    hx-get
    attribtues everywhere?
  • a
I know @User added hx-boost almost as an afterthought, but I can tell you that's our primary mechanism for turning multi-page apps into SPAs.
  • a
We only dip into hx-* attributes when we want to swap out parts of a particular page
  • n
    I see.
  • n
Let me give that a try. I converted a server-side django site I run to an SPA using HTMX and I'm happy with the results barring some annoyances here and there
  • n
    Let me give
    hx-boost
    a try
  • a
Let us know how it works out for you!

    I feel like
    command + click
    is vital

especially since it's a meme site and I tend to open lots of tabs

  • n
    I think
    hx-boost
might also solve the link hover styling since it looks like it relies on the
    href
    parameter 🤔

If you build a plain ol' html page with bog standard forms and links ... and then hx-boost the whole thing, it should work exactly like it worked before... except that everything runs over ajax instead of full page refreshes. If you care about history and back button support, you should work in hx-push-url, but other than that, there's not much more to it. That whole big deal that the hotwire guys make over progressive enhancement... I've got your progressive enhancement right here buddy:
    hx-boost="true"
    😁

As a side note... Some memes you say? 😂 👊
  • g
For a while, I used hx-boost on This Week to add shared element transitions to a static HTML site.
  • r
I still want a way to do a redirect that acts like hx-boost
  • a
Flip... that's touches on that core ajax limitation on redirects though, doesn't it @User ? Or do you have other ideas on this?
  • r
I'm trying to remember exactly what it was I was trying to do. I think I had a form, and after submitting the form and validating it (validation used hx-post I think) I wanted to redirect to a new page (like a user page). Right now, I just return a redirect which causes a whole page refresh. I wanted there to be something like hx-boost which would push the URL into the history stack and then load the page without a refresh.
  • a
Can I just say.. this thing you built on hyperscript is a thing of beauty 😍 https://arhamjain.com/typehand/
  • r
Thanks! I'm pretty proud of it 😄

Imagine a registration form that takes username and password. The username is validated against some regex, so I use hx-post to swap out the form itself when the username is incorrect to add an error message. Then, when the form passes validation I want to redirect the user somehow to their profile page, without a refresh. I think the best solution that was suggested here was to use hx-swap on the body, hx-push-url as well, and then update the backend code to detect when the POST was done by HTMX rather than without HTMX.
  • a
All of that is doable... but the "without a refresh" bit is problematic I think. @User thoughts?
  • a
Tbh, we just do a normal redirect during an operation like that... but it would be sweet to not have to do a full refresh
  • r
Right, a full refresh is okay (and it's what I do right now) but no refresh would look better
