But the example you provided doesn't. Should I always use

event.target

?

Ah, sorry, I missed that the script was on the

div

not on the

a

I'd write it like this:

on click
  set targetId to the @data-target of the event's target
  take .{'side-menu--active'}
    from <a/> in #side-menu
    for #{targetId}

starting to get pretty dense, so I prefer to break things up a bit using a variable rather than one-liner it

Thanks! That works perfectly! Still a little rough understanding the full ability of hyperscript but loving it!

anyone here using htmx with blockchain dapps?

I am eager to build a dapp but can stand the idea of using react or vue 🤢

I got a detailed answer on StackOverflow about which http-status to use in the case that the user submitted a form with invalid data. Feedback is welcome: https://stackoverflow.com/a/69952759/633961

Do "dapps" require a server component? The big difference between htmx and react/vue is that htmx works primarily on a server. Pur js libraries move all of the logic to your browser, so they can work from a dumb file server without any back-end logic.

if you can speak https, you can use htmx. if not, then not

You might consider Svelte, then. Dapps don't generally (ever? I dunno, crypto is mostly smoke and mirrors to me) talk to HTTP servers for their back end. If your front-end is going to use web tech, it is more likely going to be an SPA that uses web3js or ethers or something to do its back-end work on a node. Not saying you couldn't have an app that does run on a centralized HTTP server to put up your UI and use HTMX's facilities to avoid a lot of UI JS, and then your dapp would be the backend running on the network, but then you've kind of defeated one of the purposes of having a Dapp in the first place, which is to avoid dependency on a centralized server. I would feel not too sanguine about HTMX as a tool for Web3 kinda stuff without a lot of work writing client-side functions that took over the actions, and a smart contract that somehow emitted HTMX as its payload.

hello! Im using hx-boost with the body as target. Its working with all the elements load except with a chart from chartjs im trying to load. I have included the chartjs library and when the request its not htmx, it shows the chart successfully. do you know if its possible to do it via htmx?

Should a

form

with

hx-post

be submitted via htmx on a

onchange="this.form.submit()"

placed in a

<select>

inside it?

Sorry, this is not an specific answer. More of a general thought. After your content is loaded, don’t you have to make an explicit call to the ja charting library ? Otherwise how does it know you have loaded something that needs its attention? This is a situation that is common when one Ajax load new content that has to be affected by a js library already in place.

Totally-not-late draft of Issue 5 of This Week in HTMX: https://65c8f896.this-week-in-htmx.pages.dev/issue/5/ Feedback welcome. @User @User @User @User @User This issue features messages from you. Please feel free to reach out if you'd like them left out/amended/any other issue. My DMs are open.

unfortunately

elt.submit()

does not trigger a submit event, IIRC

we'd need more context. my suspicion is that you have javascript init code that isn't running on the newly loaded content and needs to be moved into a

htmx.onLoad()

callback

Yeah. Its reloading the whole page.

very annoying, sorry

i don't know why the submit() call works this way

htmx.submit

helper?

so that this code won't infinitely recurse

js
form.addEventListener('submit', e => {
  // do some preprocessing...
  form.submit()
})

seems like

form.submit(false)

would have been more appropriate

I propose we write a new scripting language for the web

but what to name it? hyperscript is already taken

__hyperscript obviously

the double underscore is pronounced "huehue"

jeeze almost internet died

We’ve been using the hack of to catch formEl.submit() JS events 🤷‍♂️
