You must be using a killer SPA framework!!!!!

```html
<ul _="on click take .side-menu--active from <a/> in me for the event's target">
    <li>
      {% url 'landing-page' as url %}
      <a xhref="{% url 'landing-page' %}"
        hx-get="{% url 'landing-page' %}"
        hx-target="#viewport"
        hx-swap="innerHTML"
        hx-push-url="true"
        hx-indicator="#content-loader"
        class="side-menu {% if request.path == url %}side-menu--active{% endif %}">
        <div class="side-menu__icon"> <i data-feather="home"></i> </div>
        <div class="side-menu__title">
          Dashboard
        </div>
      </a>
    </li>
    <li>
      <a hx-get="{% url 'products:list' %}"
        hx-target="#viewport"
        hx-swap="innerHTML"
        hx-push-url="true"
        hx-indicator="#content-loader"
        class="side-menu cursor-pointer {% if 'products' in request.path %}side-menu--active{% endif %}">
        <div class="side-menu__icon"> <i data-feather="box"></i> </div>
        <div class="side-menu__title">
          Products
        </div>
      </a>
    </li>
    <li>
      <a href="{% url 'todos:todo-list' %}" class="side-menu {% if 'todos' in request.path %}side-menu--active{% endif %}">
        <div class="side-menu__icon"> <i data-feather="truck"></i> </div>
        <div class="side-menu__title">
          Entities
        </div>
      </a>
    </li>
  </ul>
```

When I click, it removes the active but never adds it to the one I click on....

i bet the click target is one of those divs

the -- might be being treated as a comment

-- is the comment prefix in hyperscript (and hypertalk, appletalk, etc.)

This is a template my client purchased for me to use with Tailwind.....

I would hate to go through all that CSS to change it....

who puts two dashes in a css class name?!?

well, that's one of the problem, I think the event target will be wrong

a lot of BEM implementations basically rely on it

It works with setting pointer events none......
