    in my experience the problem is with browsers handling of the back button as the browser might assume that the html fragment is the whole page if it came from the same url that you pushed to the navigation

    I generally recommend setting "Cache-Control: no-store, must-revalidate" on all html fragments, this will prevent the browser from doing anything clever with the history navigation.. its also extremely important to do if your site has a login system, to prevent user data being left on the machine after the session is clsoed.

    because it is important to note that the browsers back button is specifically not a cache and will not observe the general cache behavior, ie. it will ignore max-age

    I have a button that starts a task to generate a file and then initiates the download. The first part is easy, returning a fragment with a spinner etc. At the end i want to initiate a download with 
    Content-Disposition: attachment
    but as it's htmx polling i think I ended up with the file being shown inline. (Not in an environment where I can test right now - will try and reproduce later tonight). Would an htmx get pass on processing to initiate a download? If not - any suggested pattern for these scenarios? (Guess a non-htmx download button?)

    Hi, is it possible to close the bootstrap modal from the example by clicking on a non-modal element? The example from https://htmx.org/examples/modal-custom/ has this behavior enabled but the example from 
    /modal-bootstrap
    doesn't

    if you simply inspect the code on the site you can see how it is made

    they are just putting a transparent div around the entire page and triggering an event when you click that div

    personally i have moved entirely to elements with polyfill, as I think that is going to be the future anyway.

    Appreciate the response @User; and i did see this. Will definitely look into elements with polyfill but for now was wondering if the bootstrap example could use the same implementation. What I tried doing was creating the same mechanism of closing using the 
    modal back-drop
    in the bootstrap example as a substitute to 
    modal-underlay
    in the custom example. Couldn't get the created closeModal function to work though

    What you want to do is issue a client side redirect to the file url using the HX-Redirect header

    That will properly handle the content disposition. Ajax requests don’t.
