htmx

Hello, I recently came across htmx,  impressive! 👍

Wondering how htmx could work together with weld (  https://github.com/tmpvar/weld ) to target a  "template" element with a JSON payload. Can't use hx-swap because it expects an HTML fragment so it has to trigger on valid xhr response.

If I create a custom htmx event, and I trigger that before doing something. How do I create an event handler that cancel the rest of the code?

Ah... I just need to check the return value of htmx.trigger.

Hi <@826933940756807690> - I don’t have any experience with weld, but it looks pretty interesting. In theory, you should be able to use it alongside htmx if you’re able to write a little bit of glue to handle the weld rendering functions.

Htmx includes an extension that does something similar with three other client side templating libraries: mustache, nunjucks, and handlebars. You should be able to write a custom extension that does the same thing for weld.

htmx has warped my thought processes to the point where i'm finding it hard to imagine working in this industry anymore 😦

all the startups i talk to, all the companies i interview with, are just stuck, completely shuttered by their own inertia. 'we use xyz, so we'll always use xyz'.

and it doesn't matter that xyz are so *god awful* they make us all less productive *and* less happy, it's "what we use"

htmx can be adopted incrementally, so my hope is that it will get a foot in the door at a lot of shops and grow from there

also, sounds like you might need to start your own company 🙂

at this point, being willing to forego the insanity of SPA frameworks is a competitive advantage in many ways

if i had a sellable idea i would have started my own company a long time ago

You don’t need an original idea. You just need to do the same thing someone else is already doing, but execute it better than they did.

Pick something you love, but is underserved by the current tools.

honestly i'm just miserable right now. i can't tolerate the way people think about this stuff. it's making me actively sick.

Then pick something you REALLY HATE.. and make it bearable 😜

I hear you. I railed against “industry best practices” for years.

It’s one of the many reasons I left tech.

i do have one idea for a tool that i would love to build, better than what's out there, less predatory
