it becomes a lot easier to understand why web apps these days are so bad when you realize a lot of them are made by people who fucking despise the web and everything it stands for

most 'devs' I work with these days simply see the words on a jira ticket and nothing else, and no pm is ever gonna write 'learn http verbs', so here we are.

having the whole web use the same semantics makes it possible to build tools what work across the whole web (browsers, search engines...) unfortunately economic incentives make it preferable to build walled gardens

(this is also why i dislike systems that let you define custom schemas. a schema is a walled garden masquerading as an open standard)

The @mysterious-toddler-20573 observation that it used to be unthinkable that you'd use the same software for banking that you'd use to book a restaurant has really stuck with me

This kinda reminds me of the indie web and their auth system . It does require everyone to have a domain, but with the proper Tooling that would actually be a better place we would inhabit

if your name ends in a TLD you can make a domain hack

    imho
    .web.id
would be cooler and it coincidentally shares a name with a W3C Community Group trying to standardize on a personal ID protocol
