Got this message today while merging a stack -
Graphite couldn't merge this PR because it failed for an unknown reason
it worked later after i restacked but can I please know the reason for this?

(If applicable) To help us repro, please send the following if you haven't already: - PR links, screenshots, and/or debug output if applicable - Repro steps - Does this happen consistently? Just to you or others on your team also? - Is this a regression? Is the problem new? - If you're having an issue with the CLI, please send us debug logs using
gt feedback --with-debug-context <any message>
do you happen to have the graphite PR link so i can take a look?
p
it looks like the pr merged. it may have been due to this incident that we had.
g
i restacked it
and theb submitted
p
based on our logs, it was github that rejected the merge request due to "Check PR title follow conventional commit style"
g
ohh weird because the PR title was never changed
p
yeah, very odd. that raises the question: why did the github api return that if the PR title never changed. yet the PR merged after
gt restack
. that makes me think a parent branch might have been wrong and the restack re-tracked it to the right base.
g
but how did the parent branch have been wrong? because I was creating all of them one after the other
p
what was your flow? there was no use of
gt track
 or
gt split
  or
gt fold
 ?
g
nope
so i had done
gt branch create
and
git cherry-pick
to make my stack and later started the merge, thats it, and later i had to do
gt restack
because the branch refused to merge
p
so the
git cherry-pick
would change the SHA and if its in happens in the middle of the stack and the branches below yours may still based on the old parent until they get realigned again. reason why youd need to do a
gt restack
. for future reference, if you wanted us to dig deeper into this issue, you can run
gt feedback --with-debug-context <message>
and we can take a look at the CLI logs.

Cool, will do thanks!
