forking a stack is totally fine and sometimes necessary! stacks are more dependency trees than linear stacks
a
When merging the "outer" stack, will the queue hold until the "inner" stack merges? Trying to wrap my head around this 😅
b
@Atlas Wegman what do you mean "hold until the "inner" stack merges"?
a
Sure, I know that was a terrible way to describe it... In the above screenshot I'm calling the "outer" stack the branches in blue, and the "inner" stack the branches in green. If I go to the top of this stack (
gt top
) and merge, what happens when I get to the green branches?
b
In this case, the outer stack will be merged into
master
and then if you run
gt sync
, we'll delete the outer stack since these branches have been merged and then restack the inner stack onto main
from the inner stacks perspective, if you look at a pr on top of the fork, it'll just look like you merged in part of the inner stack
a
Got it – thanks!

let me know if you have any other questions!
