i ended up just guessing, some combination of

git pull

and

gt sync

and

gt restack

seems to do it

Hmm this is interesting - cc @Jacob Gold this is an interesting case

We don' currently have a great answer for cases like this as we tend to restack everything, but we planning to build a "pinned" state for when you get someone else's branch
