Hello 🙂 How can I create a stacked branch with multiple parent branches? The docs seem to imply it's possible (e.g. "a stack is represented by a directed, acyclic graph (DAG) of dependent git branches")
a
Not supported today, but we're thinking about this!

Good to hear you're thinking about it. FYI my immediate use case would be to merge a single PR that is independent of its parent, without having to reorder the stack.

Not sure I understand why multiple parents help here? And also unsure why you want to avoid reordering?

Is this like, you want to work on the PR on top of some parent changes, but don't actually want to merge those parent changes? I have this use case sometimes: Sometimes I make changes that aren't ready to ship, but I want to develop everything on top of it to battle-test it.

Also, say I'm working on C and split out independent changes A and B. With graphite I might stack it as A -> B -> C, but if B passes but there's a failure in A, I would reorder to B -> A -> C. re-run tests on B and then merge B. With plain git, I would have A and B as independent branches that I manually merge into C, and I could merge B as soon as the tests pass.

That said, I do greatly prefer the Graphite workflow that automatically restacks branches for me 💌
