Are those release tags on the trunk branch? Because iirc
rs
only fetches the trunk branch and Git only fetches tags on branches that are fetched. A
git pull
fetches all branches and thus all tags that are on any branch.
p
Yup the release tag is on my trunk (i.e.
main
for a particular repo). So even
gt rs
should fetch it if I am not wrong
v
Would expect so. Maybe try what happens if you do
git pull --rebase origin main
, whether it is fetched then or not. Should be fairly easily testible by deleting the tag locally if it is already present.
j
Tags are not actually associated with the branch - a default
git pull
fetches tags, whereas
repo sync
only fetches the trunk branch.
v
It does not fetch all tags unles you give
--tags
. It only fetches tags that are in the history of branches you fetch. And even if you fetch (or pull) a single branch, it should fetch the tags that are in its history. Unless it is prevented for example with
--no-tags
or by
remote.<name>.tagOpt
setting.
p
The older tags which were part of the trunk branch were also not fetched. I will try out
gt rs -r --tags
next time and see if they work by fetching the tags
j
gt rs
doesn't support fetching tags
v
You cannot use arbitrary Git flags on gt
