At this point, do I just have to uninstall and reinstall graphite?
j
Hi, I don't have access to view your staging environment
d
oh lol my bad
Copy code
gt repo init --reset
ERROR: Could not find branch dmelvin/fix/synced-inputs-long-running-cmd-focus-switch.
j
if you're sure you don't have any other graphite processes running, you can delete the
.graphite_cache_lock
file in your
.git
folder
ah thanks, progress!
still getting stuck on the could not find branch errors, though 😞
j
hmm, try
git update-ref -d refs/branch-metadata/dmelvin/fix/synced-inputs-long-running-cmd-focus-switch
and then
gt repo init --reset
again
d
same issue
j
oh, try
gt dev cache --clear
again first
sorry, got the order wrong
d
https://app.warp.dev/block/zEjyZxRTiA0Z37ozIarO71 so should I delete that lock file again? idk why it keeps saying I have multiple graphite instances open…
j
yeah, there's probably some issue where we aren't deleting the lock file in the dev command, so give that a try. if it still doesn't work,
rm -rf .git/refs/branch-metadata
might be necessary
(this just deletes graphite data, nothing from git)
d
ok, deleting the lock file and got the same error: https://app.warp.dev/block/wHG2W78aVEYUjBPlDXj9x2
so i’ll delete the branch metadata
and then run
gt repo init
with
--reset
? or without the reset flag?
j
you shouldn't need reset I believe
d
nice it worked! i just have to fix all my stacks and whatnot i guess. thanks for the quick help! 🙂
j
nice! sorry you ran into this — i think there's a couple things that could be made smoother with all this. do you remember what you did to end up in this state?
d
Knowing about the lock and
brach-metadata
files in the troubleshooting docs would be dope, but obviously that’s up to y’all 🙂 (maybe it is there, but i didn’t see it in my panic)
also, I ran
Copy code
gt feedback --with-debug-context "dmelvin/fix/synced-inputs-long-running-cmd-focus-switch is the old name of my branch. it was pushed to github a while ago and i closed that PR but didn't delete the remote branch. I then ran `git fetch` and git checkout `dmelvin/fix/synced-inputs-long-running-cmd-focus-switch` and `gt branch track`. Then I accidentally ran `gt upstack onto` from a different branch and messed up my `gt ls` (I didn't know I made this mitake until it was too late). Then I `gt branch rename` to my new name. and then I ran `gt branch up` and realized I messed up my setup, and started gettign errors like `ERROR: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'branchRevision')` and `ERROR: Could not find branch dmelvin/fix/synced-inputs-long-running-cmd-focus-switch.`""
"
but I’m not sure if it submitted my data b/c all graphite commands were erroring
I think in short, I ran
gt upstack onto dmelvin/fix/synced-inputs-long-running-cmd-focus-switch
and got some rebase conflicts, at which point I realized i was rebasing the wrong branch. I ran
gt rebase --abort
thinking it would stop the whole
gt upstack onto
, but maybe that’s not true? And then after that, I tried to rename
dmelvin/fix/synced-inputs-long-running-cmd-focus-switch
to something else, and I got the standard good output so I thought things were fine. But every
gt
command after that mentioned the above errors
After running
gt repo init
again things are mostly working but I find it strange that
gt ls
isn’t actually showing the branch
gt branch checkout
says I have checked out
gt branch track
fixed it though, so maybe that’s expected behavior
