echoing the hiring aspect - we recently hired some mid level java devs who had a bit of spring experience, threw them into grails 3.3.x and minimal coaching + a few "oh here's how you can do it in groovy/grails" - we got tons of features done (also they really took to spock, so tons of tests!)
